Noticed there's a bit of play when holding crank arms .Will this be like octalink and square taper and go on like that for ages ?
Only been on bike since May .Done 400 miles is that excessive wear ?Thought it would last a year ?
My RaceFace BB that came with my Evolve cranks died in about same time, typical life expectancy I believe. Time to go to Hope!
Rob
Raceface BBs are reliant on an exactly sized BB shell(no real adjustment like Shimano),i've found many new bikes where they feel stiff to turn due to the bearings being overloaded. Worth getting the shell faced to fractionally undersize(suggest minimum width recommended by Raceface), we don't seem to get any problems since doing this.No matter what BB you use it won't last long if the bearings are forced out of line.
Ive stopped washing my bikes so much and never spray WD40 / GT85 on the BB. They last a hell of a lot longer. Still shite though ๐
I rendered one completely useless in 6 weeks, will never use one again.
As for my hope one, has done 10000 miles or so and is fine.
coatesy everything still turning fine shell was faced before fitting just this bit of play when holding crank arms .
what type of raceface bottom bracket is it? ISIS or external (x-type)?
why would you spray gt85 on your bottom bracket...?
x - type .i don't spray gt 85 on mine .
You worn a Raceface BB out before it seized?!!! Get that man a medal, well done Oldfart!!
My X-Type seized up after 4 months.
I was at Afan at the time so took it to Skyline Cycles to get a Hope BB fitted. The mechanic told me that all their Orange demo bikes came with RaceFace BBs and got quickly changed for something else.
Pull it all apart and see whether the plastic top hats inside the bearings have broken up, if you install the axle assembly without the plastic cap fitted, the step can break the top hats and give play.
coatsey fitted by LBS as i wanted it faced .will mention what you said see what they say .mechanic knows his onions BTW.
