What mudguards would be the best to put on a hardtail with 26" wheels that will be used for commuting? I need front and rear and they would stay on the bike so don't need them to be easily removable.

Thanks

If you are using thin tyres up to 1.5" then a raceblade xl can work very well on the front as it attaches to the suspension leg. The curve can bechanged to match a 26" wheel. You have more options for the rear.

I have a raceblade xl that you can have for postage but it is front only, I can put a picture on this evening to show how it works.

commuting where? road or sustrans/light xc?
I used a slicked up mtb on road for a while and had full sks chromoplastic guards, worked ok. Dunno how big they go upto for 26ers if you want to fit fatter rubber.

for "proper" offroad riding crudguards and neoprene or fender work well imo

edit sks chromo go upto 2.35
P65 silver 65 mm 26 26 x 2.10 - 2.35
dunno how much abuse they'll stand upto before guards rub against knobbles and something goes wrong.

If your bike will only be used on roads / trails without alot of mud or big rocks, then SKS chromoplastic guards are hard to beat but won't work with a sus fork.
