[Closed] Quick Shimano bash guard question

I bought a second hand SLX bash from a nice bloke on here about a month ago and finally got around to trying to fit it today.

It seems that it won't fit my Deore crank. It was maybe foolhardy to expect Shimano to be in any way standardised but it apparently not.

Does anyone know if this is the case or is it down to user error?

According to the Shimano website the latest versions of the SLX and Deore cranks both have 104/64 BCD, which suggests that it should fit.

Previous versions my be different though.

It's nowt to do with the bolt circle diamters - they are standard.

It is to do with the pcd of the shoulders that the bash ring or outer ring tabs sit on.

For SLX & Saint twin & bash crank sets the shoulders have a smaller pcd that previous 'standards' hence and SLX or Saint bash guard will not fit on standard cranks like other Shimano, RaceFace etc.

So in answer to the OP's question, no it won't fit ๐Ÿ™

I had the same problem, a bit of filling solved it.

I just filed a couple of millimetres from the inside of the bash ring. Took all of 5 minutes and it fitted perfectly.
