Quick question before I press 'buy' on these tyres - am I right in thinking if I'm using a conversion kit (joes) I don't actually need to buy the heavier more expensive UST versions? Will it just mean it's a bit harder to seal?

DT swiss 4.2 rim...

Ask trailrat what he thinks about either of these Schwalbe UST tyres... my ears are still ringing from his expletives last year!

Hmmm I reckon the weight & cash saving should be worth the extra faff...

Wonder what hindsight will tell me 🙂

i run standard evo rons and ralphs tubeless. i will be getting the ust ones next time as the standard ones are a bit too fragile for the routes i ride lots of flinty gravel. i've had a few cuts which have resulted in me being covered in latex [nice].

it'll work, just might take some effort - you've access to a compressor?

Tyres will mainly be used on the hardtail for XC races down south so woody/rooty stuff so should be ok

Don't have a compressor but have a few co2 inflators, if that doesn't work was going to take them to the local garage

Can't comment on DT rinms aspect but i had RR s on Olympic rms last summer and worked fine with yellow rim tape and lots of JRA wheel milk. The video on the Stans website is very useful - wish I'd seen it earlier in my tubeless life.

Obviously non UST RRs are v thin but as you say, in the south it should be Ok if you avoid flints (so thats the whole of the south downs!). I ran mine at trans wales, chedder, D2D etc with no punctures.

I find Schwalbe work really well converted with Stans, they're not the best for really rocky areas though, particularly Rons/Freds/Dans with the ligther carcass. For down here though, Rons are spot on, very good in the loam.
