New shimano 11speed chain was sent with no quick link, is there a way round this or do I need to get the QL?

There should have been a packet of snap-off links in the box. Use one of those until you get a quick link.

All that was in the box was the chain

Then you need a quick link. Any brand will do. A 10 speed link will also work. There should be a pin or link in the box if it is new so complain the seller.

Sram 11sp links are nice n cheap, but make your next chain a connex wipperman, most durable and strong and the truly reusable link is genius, pricey as hell though if bought separately.
