Hey

Would anyone or anyone you know be the types that may wish to hire things like Pugsleys and other 'niche' machines like tourers etc?

Perhaps you fancy using one but don't want to buy/can't see the long term value in one?
Or maybe you would love to go on a trip but have been delaying it as you don't have the right equipment?

Anyone care to offer some thoughts?

Ta

I think there's a fair few people that would like to try a Pug out.

You should get a hire fleet of custom built Ti bikes. ๐Ÿ˜†

Never mind niche like that, what about stuff like big DH bikes, or super light XC race wepons, or say a proper Tandem.

Get some of those and I reckon you could hire them out for a weekend. These are things Id buy if I didnt have a mortgage, so being able to hire them out is a good alternative.

Not just odd stuff like SS, ridged, fixed, 29ers.

Tandems would be interesting actually.

DH bikes not so keen on as they get hammered. You should see what happens to demo trail bikes... you would not believe what damage can be done from a few hours at a trail centre...

I would also propose things like Big Dummys and the like would be useful?

stu if you hire your favorite bike i.e. the tollah out to all these manly men, you would soon be able to wear him like a pair of chest waders ๐Ÿ˜‰

We have a demo tandem. While you'd think this'd be a gold mine, we hire it out maybe 3 or 4 times a year. We even advertise that we have it.

Sounds like too risky a business to me.

My bro and his partner have hired a demo mtb tandem a few times and love it, I think it's more than a couple of hire item though until the partnership settles down. It's never going to be a gold mine as it's not a jump on and go mental kind of thing

can't imagine there would be money in it outside big or big-for-bikes cities

Quite a lot of people showing an interest or would like to have a go. My question is what sort of value do people consider appropriate for the service? I ask purely out of interest so as to try and guage what people consider value for money against service offered.

Well it would be cheap enough for a 'what the hell' style decision to be made.

Open a cafe too, quiche with your niche. Might be some folks with cafe experience looking for new positions soon. Was there not somewhere near the Mile that used to hire bikes? Didn't they do tandems? Tandem would be quite a good thing for a day. Ride out to the Pentlands, spin round the hills and back for quiche. Our hire a Pug, out past Portie etc, chips in Dunbar, train back.

Nah, not in town I'm afraid. Partying southern style. I'll be on an extended loan to the Burgh in January though.
