What kind of Lumen output would a modern motorbike headlight put out? Or for that matter, car headlights?
Got stopped by a commuter on his hybrid riding back along the canal after a jaunt round the local woods this evening, wanted to know about my light. He thought I was on a motorbike until about 50 yards away when he couldn't hear the engine, and I was only riding with my Exposure Maxx-D on the lowest setting (about 300 lumens iirc).
I've only just got this light, and I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I know it's not at the cutting edge of Lumen output (it's a mk3, 1200 lumens on high) but it seems enough to me on high, perhaps coupled with my old P7 on my head, even for the fastest/roughest descents I would normally encounter. So how much is too much?
Here's a good place to look for answers:-

OK crikey
Interesting to learn that LED bike lights are now chucking out as much as many car headlights!
Once when I was out running at night I got a farmer chasing me on a quad bike. Was quite happy when he caught up with me - he'd thought with my ~600lm nominal headlamp that I was on a motorbike (this was right after the release of the Cree XR-E when no commercial light was using them yet, so mine was brighter than pretty much anything you could buy ๐ )
