Hi guys,
Highly possible I'll be able to have some riding time around Quantocks tomorrow morning. I was thinking approaching it from the South-East area (North Petherton via King's Cliff Woods, then up towards Cothelstone Hill and then up to the Hills). It is a good idea?
I'm not looking for some near-death inducing DH stuff!
Cheers!
kings cliff did have some basic trails in there ten years ago. no idea now.
massive old beech tree worth looking for just off the road at the peak of the hill as you go over broomfield hill.
not much then until you get to cothelstone which is worth going up to the tree ring on the top. really good views.
there are DH trails down through the woods (paradise combe) below into bishops lydeard but it was always pretty jumpy. no idea now.
Other than that its a fair old winch up the road to get to the trailhead at Lydeard Hill, but from there you're on the main trail system along the ridge line which is easy to follow - could just trundle out towards the coast as far as you fancy enjoying the view, or take your pick of the descents into the combes off the sides. (Prolly avoid Cockercombe and Great Wood though as that's where the near-death inducing DH stuff lives!)
This actually sounds quite good! I remember last time I was there in the Summer I though about doing it one day - so here it came! 8)could just trundle out towards the coast as far as you fancy enjoying the view
Thanks for the advice!
