Interesting that in Germany they are unsuitable for the road. Too bright?

I think they have some kind of standard that defines the beam angle, so lights for use on the road work more like dipped beam of a car headlight, rather than just flinging out a cone of light.

If you're solely riding on the road, look for a light with a beam pattern that's not going to dazzle oncoming traffic. Narrow beams and German-style cutoff beams (designed to comply with German road lighting regulations, where 95% of the available light must be directed downwards) are the ones to look out for.

from this article....

The Germans have very detailed StVZO regs, covering all aspects of bicycle lighting, not just the power output. They are probably the strictest regs in the world, so lights manufactured for other markets usually don't meet the standard:

I'd imagine that it is the same for the UK too, just no one ever enforces them here. Yep, looks like it.

That light looks like a real bargain!

Let us know how it performs. I bought Niterider Lumina 750 in December and it's bloody lovely! Much better than my Million Lumens eBay Chinese special with rattling interiors... 😆

I got my bro-in-law a Moon XP-780 for Christmas and that's a pretty good 'all in one' light.
I'm debating getting one for the road bike, rather than my other lights that have separate battery packs.

The Cateye Volt 700 looks to have a better beam pattern for road riding though.

Will be interested to see how good the light the OP has ordered is.

It arrived. Its slightly bigger than my old Moon XP500, but definitely brighter and quality looks good.

It comes with two mounts in the box, one rubbery one and one lock on one which is nice.

The window on the sides for visibility is good too.

Weight is 106g and according to packaging has panasonic or Sanyo battery

I think a bit of a bargain.
