Can you still get one that's not made for a shopping bike?

Shimano UN72 still does the job and seems to be widely available.

Cheers

Royce for a top quality one. Shimano un52 if you want functional and value.

I love my Royce bb. Have two of them one 15 years old and one about 3
But no matter what I do it does creak a little

Yeah they are still going strong
Shimano updated recently to the UN 55

The new un55 seems like a poor second to the old xt ones with the hollow axle

you wont find a UN72 anywhere unless you're lucky with some NOS on eBay. And then you'll be bidding against me and the rest of the world 🙂

Phil woods one is nice - lets you tweak the chainline too. But you'll need to allow £100ish for BB, cups and tool.
Try Tim @ http://www.sidewayscycles.co.uk/products/index.php?id=59&clid=8

I have a UN54 in two bikes, a UN72 in another, a Phil Wood in another and a couple of UN53/UN54s in the spares bin. I'd love to own a royce but even if you get a decent one on eBay the tools and lockrings cost a bit.

Shimano. The best you can afford. They last ages.

I have a Phil. Very nice, and is serviceable too so lasts 'forever'. The bearings last a long time tbf. The chainline adjustment is neat, very good for tweaking the 1x9 set-up I run

But the Shimano's are very durable, and super cheap
