Just taken delivery of some Raleigh (I know, I know) RSP carbon bars. Just stick them on as per normal Alu bars? Will I die as soon as I venture out of the garden?

Just tighten till you hear a cracking noise, then back it off a quarter turn. Sorted

All four of us have carbon bars fitted without a torque wrench. We keep our wheels on the ground but haven't fixed yet.

When I want to know the answer to random shit I know nothing about I'll google and find some desperate forum of random shit obsessives and then religiously follow the advice given in the naive faith that it has not been given by someone malevolent and bored the day after a bank holiday. Legend's advice above is a salutatory reminder to not be so gullible ๐Ÿ™‚

To answer - it's nice and reassuring but not essential imo if you are careful. The biggest issues are uneven tightening so the gaps are not equal even with a similar final torque reading achieved. The other issue is burrs on the inside of the stem unnoticed with a alu bar.

I managed it for years before I bought a torque wrench. You'll be fine. Use some carbon assembly paste too.
