Price aside, if you were looking to build an alfine equipped drop bar road/cross bike, which of these would you go for? 🙂

Can get one at 50% off fortunately, so price isn't such an issue... a thought has occured to me though, what's the rear hub spacing on the Pure Blood I wonder??

Surly CrossCheck all the way. Especially in the new pale blue.

would like disc brakes ideally, so the crosscheck is out... nice versatile frame though 🙂

I bought a PureBlood last year so know a fair bit about building one up. Had quite a few issues with the build as advice from various bike shops was dubious to say the least.

First off Pureblood rear and front drop out spacing is fine for MTB hubs
Disc spacing is the same for road and MTB disc brake systems. Bike shop told me they differ and tried to sell me bloody expensive Bontrager disc road wheel. Turned out the fork was built wrong (shop didn't believe me) but Fixie sent me a new one and said they were changing the design.
I have a set Hope Pro2 hubs running on 29er rims.
29er rims are the same size as 700cc rims.
The only disc brakes I could find that work with road levels are either Avid or Shimano. With both it is quite tricky to actually source them, especially for a good price
Pureblood is made in Taiwan so quite expensive for what it is
Lots of trouble getting mtb cranks and front mech to work as I was trying to reuse them.

To be fair I am quite disappointed with the PureBlood as the frame even through steel just beats the crap out of you. God knows what it is like off road. My aluminium road bike gives a smoother and more comfortable ride. Try out a PureBlood before you buy as I wish I had.

Personally if I was buying again I would buy a fully built bike as there are just lots of annoying pit falls trying build a disc road bike, loads of parts are just really hard to get hold of. I would look at a Genesis Crois de Fer as I think it is a really good price for what it is. I would put money on it that it is made by the same people as the PureBlood as a lot of the details are very similar. Forks are identical

thanks for that woody74, good to hear real life experience with one!

still, the frame/fork only deal at £400 is tempting... I do like the Croix de Fer, looks to be a very good bike for £1000 all in...
