OK, so it's London only so far, but this is pretty damned cool!
It's all GREEN! Green, I tells thee!
thats ace
and Id say london has better public transport than any other place in the uk!
In London - no contest.
The transport in London is good, yes, but you have to appreciate the density of the place. Five miles in London is way further than 5 miles anywhere else.
So the transport is good because it regularly services everywhere, but it's not quick - neither is anything else though.
When I worked for IBM, at a training thing down south I met a whole bunch of IBMers who bemoaned the fact that it took them 2 hours to drive to work every morning - 3 on a bad day.
"Wow, how far is it?" I asked.
"10 miles"
I suggested a bicycle would be a lot faster, and they all looked at me as if I was the idiot.
That's pretty cool
I had to scratch my head the other day....
Waiting for the Derby to Matlock train - 15 mins late, then ended up being cancelled. Guy on platform in full lycra, carbon road bike etc. Ok, prob had a reason for catching the train anywhere been 5 & 19 miles, but there were no obvious mechanicals.
Anyway, nice fine day, Derby to Matlock is a fairly flat 19 miles song the A6 following the train route and this guy is hanging about for half an hour waiting to see what alternative transport will be laid on???
Didn't see him on one of the buses that was laid on, but wtf? If I'd been there on my mtb I'd have still ridden it
That's great. I guess it uses some kind of population average cycling speed to calculate though. I commute to Piccadilly from the Richmond area. takes me 30 mins on the bike, 45mins plus on the transport. This suggests my return journey is quicker by transport (to be fair, it's on the edge of the green/pink). Neat idea though, like it.
Dang - site blocked (reason: entertainment, which says something for how our filter monkeys rate STW...). I live in Brum and work in Banbury, I have tried using a variety of combinations of car, bike and train, but for ease and cost, I can't beat the car. Using bike and train, even if I ride into New Street and from Banbury train station to work is more or less the same as just using the car, and adds a best part of a couple of hours onto my day. IF the trains are on time....
