can someone please explain what this single status means in this context.

OK, serious face on and impolitely ontopic... Isn't the point of single-status reviews to equalise pay? ie, when someone takes a dramatic hit, it's because they were already getting paid over the odds for their particular role? Obviously that's no fun for people in that position but assuming (HAH) that it's done right, it's hard to argue against...
