Houns, is ebay the best place for a pair of frogskins?

Tells us a lot about the people on the forum

Oh I loves what I feel to be a bargain..
And I did need some decent sunnies, as has always been one thing I have never spent money on.
I could only buy a pair if I bought the missus a pair, so savings for me if this does not work out..

Warton there are plenty of new Frogskins out there now that you can get from teneighty etc.

For old school Frogskins on eBay they are either damaged and cheap or in good condition and expensive.

I'd go for a new pair

Houns, you lucky your crystal reds have survived, I had a pair just like that, about 7 years ago the clear plastic started to delaminate and break up (really good Oakley warranty tho), same with a pair of crystal Frogskins

Because I'm an Oakley collector

Hmmm. I've got an old "thermonuclear protection" cap with a stitched logo in the drawer. I had no idea people collected this kind of thing, will it be worth anything you think?

I bought some Oakley Frogskins clear frames with purple iridium lenses which I bought in 1993 for £25 second hand they were £55 new. I sold them on ebay for £62 I was gobsmacked!!!

The only remaining Oakley's I own
I think these are Blades I brought them about 21 years ago after seeing iirc Scott Tinley wearing them. The frames are perfect though the lens has some scuff marks.

[img] [/img]

And original Frog Skins though I had to start wearing glasses just after I brought them and the opticians changed the original lenses for some non Oakley prescription lenses.

Have had other Oakleys in the past but have broken them 😥

Just received this from the nice Oakley people

Dear MR higthepig,

Many thanks for placing your recent Oakley custom order.

The website has had its technical issues resolved so you are more than welcome to place a new order if required.

Please do not reply to this email, as this is an automated email and responses will not be received.

Many thanks,

Oakley Web Customer Care Team

Ah well, wonder how many extra orders they received last night over normal?

Yup just got the cancellation EMail myself.

So thats a bike stolen and no Oakleys to compensate, christ yesterday was a disappointment.

I had heard that a sports sunglass company was in financial trouble, not sure if it is Oakley, and was kinda hoping they were trying to raise cash quickly, blame the pricing glitch it on a tech fault, no damage to brand, happy customers and cash in the bank.
Guess I was wrong.

Was really pleased yesterday when I thought I was getting custom Flak Jackets for £68. Just received the dreaded e-mail, bugger.

Is it just me who is surrpised to see people eagerly snapping-up "bargain" sunglasses for £100+?

Insane amount of money to spend on something so likely to get lost/sat on!

Not that I'm judging, each to their own etc.

I don't think I've ever lost or sat on some nice sunglasses. My Cebes lasted about 10 years, till the rubber on the nose perished and fell apart. Surely it's not that hard to take care of them?

But I still wouldn't buy Oakleys, although I'm sure they're very nice.

Cancellation email here. Result for the credit card 🙂

On the subject of old Oakleys, I have a penchant for acquiring old Zeros and SubZeros if anyone wants to offload some.

I have lost 2 pairs of Oakleys I must confess, and had 2 stolen, but I've destroyed countless pairs of cheaper glasses, including some that were still fairly pricey. IMO you're more likely to look after nice kit, and they do last very well.

That's quite a collection Houns - glad to see some Antifreeze Radars in there, my girlfriend refuses to be seen with me while I'm wearing those - although apparently my Livestrong Jawbones are worse!

I chucked 2 pairs of original Frogskins in a charity bag a few years ago, wish I'd known they'd become fashionable again.
1 set with smoked frames and grey lenses, the other, clear frames and blue iridium lenses! Bugger!

I'm still using some which must be 1994 vintage. Not that hard to look after them!

I have all my Oakley's

Original 'E' wires and case
Square wires
Some nice rare ones (Why 3s I think, like the ones front left corner in Houns' photo, but not clear lenses)

Ahahahahahah - bunch of fannies.

Fair enough, if you've got it you may as well spend it on something.

Congrats on the bargain.

Yeah that's confused me all right... 😕 If that announcement supersedes the email that I had which cancelled the order then I'm confused but happily so!

Trading standards would murder them if they cancelled all orders then wrote that. As well as destroying a lot of faith in the brand.

I am sure they will reinstate our orders!

Interestingly my mrs ordered some to. She never received a cancellation e mail.

Spoke to them this morning. All cancelled ordered are been allowed.

They are having to call each person indervidually.

No point calling customer services as its a different team doing it. I was told i will get a call later today or tomorrow to confirm it all and put order through again!

So be patient we shall all get our cheap Oakleys! 😀

I've just called Oakley and ALL orders will be honoured and whoever has ordered will receive either an email or telephone call to explain the situation and I was told it will take a little longer to complete any orders due to the number of orders and stock - I'm notthat bothered about waiting but over the moon that I will get them! Fantastic and well done Oakley.

I suspect that the fact that they'll still make a good profit on them has made the decision to honour the orders a lot easier 🙂
