There was a post on here about them being long cage...think they advertised as GS but delivered SGS as their systems had the wrong inventory.

tmb467 - That thread suggests that they are indeed GS

That thread suggests that they are indeed GS
It suggests that they are indeed listing as GS, but at least 1 customer has been sent a SGS

So with a 2x 10 (11-34) which would fit best ?

@iainc:

SGS capacity up to 43t

GS capacity up to 35t

34 - 11 = 23.

Add that to the difference between your two front rings and it will almost certainly amount to less that 35t.

SGS usually used for triple's.

edit:
Just seen your other thread where you say 11-36 & 24-38
That's 25 + 14 = 39 so outside the range of the GS. Might work presuming you never shift into the larger cogs front & back at the same time.

@kwack - only difference I can see is 'oem' in the product code.

Umm how does this apply to 1x10? If I'm 30t front and 40t rear will the GS work?

If it's 1x10 then ignore the front.
Capacity just= difference between rear sprockets.

Though whether any specific rear mech will work well with a (presumably) extended casette ...

Johnny - many thanks, I've learned something today !

front is 24/38, so that's 14 plus the 23 at back, so at 37 I guess I'm on a long.

At least now I know how to work it out !

Medium and long cage all work ok with 1x10

Long cage just takes a little bit longer to shift and looks a bit naff... 🙂

I'd be interested to see if I was the only one that received a SGS (i.e genuine, one-off packing mistake) or if they are basically labelling up to just about get away with legally shifting some stock they know they wouldn't, if labelled clearly and correctly.

It was definitely a SGS they shipped to me. I ended up buying a Zee instead and it's converted me to using a short cage mech for 1 x 10. Much neater.

GS works fine with 24/38 and 11/36
SGS works with anything

Just ordered one at that price its worth the risk. If its the wrong one will take it back. If its a sgs an the cage be taken off and a gs one fitted.

That sucks. If mine comes as an SGS it's going straight back.

If anyone gets a long cage one and is going to return it I'll happily buy it at £35 🙂

£39.99 on Ribble (free P&P) for SGS and GS. Plus when I bought from them, they sent me the cage length I ordered...Bonus 😉

How long do they work for before you have to [s]bin[/s] sell them secondhand?

Doesn't matter, you can't buy them for £139 anyway. £199 is the cheapest available on on-one, despite what they claim.

I have ordered one of these and hoping that it IS a long cage. If I get a short one I can swop 🙂

So they are being dodgy.

Back to the Mechs!

Mine's come.
For comparison,
My 9sp XTR Shadow SGS jockey wheel centre's distance = a smidge under 100mm
My 9sp XT Shadow GS jockey wheel centre's distance = a smidge under 80mm

This thing's jockey wheel centre's distance = a smidge over 95mm

So, SGS then. It's going back.

that's exactly same as my current SGS one indeed !

Unboxed in bubble wrap. Offered to drop mine in to one of the stores to swap it but they cant do that as the stores done have gs ones so its gone back in the post. Did anyone get a gs one or were they all sgs been sold on as gs. Guy I spoke to seemed to think it was just mine.

Iainc, still think a GS would work with your setup. How often are you likely to shift into small/small? The mech will complain before you get there (EOEE & YMMV of course).

My original post was re-posted in this thread and I added a comment to this thread. Why are people peeved they got SGS's after reading the advice earlier (shakes head)? Of course the guy at On One seemed to think each one was a one off error.

No you don't need a box but that would have a code on it that told you what the mech is. When this topic came up a while ago I measured the cage on a GS 10 speed mech and reported that it is 95mm between jockey wheel bolts.

Measured four of our gs ones, all XT 10 speed clutch mechs, including one in a box waiting to be fitted to replace a damaged one and they all measure 80mm the one delived today measured 100mm. Something isnt right as there cant be that much difference in cage lengths if they are indeed gs.
