Couldn't resist a quick peek. They come with normal pads - not finned (OE brakes I guess).

Levers are so tiny, I can see why somebody above runs them outside their shifters!

Nice free mug included too.

Excellent, mine should be here today too.
Got emailed a 10quid credit note from them for the Facebook voucher.
Plus a free mug to go with my bowl?
Can't be bad 🙂

BTW, for those that asked, I'll be doing the hose swap (have done it a few times before), so will do photie instructions for posting up here.

I'm in too. To be honest, even at full RRP these seemed great value. £125 a pair is mental.

DezB - I'll probably be making use of those instructions, cheers.

I've jumped on the bandwagon as well! Couldn't resist at those prices.

I'm assuming the adaptors haven't changed to mount the calipers? Hoping to re-use the Shimano ones I've got already

Mine arrived also. They come with one spare olive and connector (you only need to buy one if you're planning on doing new ones). Can confirm non-finned pads. Levers are tiny tiny tiny.

And a free mug, and two packs of free sweeties. And my XTR BB.

I've read a good plan for the hose swap without bleed is to take the bleed block out, engage the lever a little to push the pistons out, then when reattatching the hose, use a spacer to push the pistons back in, pushing fluid through the system until you have a meniscus at the end of the hose.

Make sense?

DezB - good lad!

So for those of us that want to shorten the hoses, even if I'm careful with the cut I guess there would be some leakage. Can I just put a bit more fluid into the hose before reconnecting?

continuity, i have used that trick of "burping" when Ive shortened hoses-this is on used brakes so already have some piston movement to push back with. Worked fine every time.

thebunk, see above, if youre careful you wont even need to top up fluid. This has been mentioned in a few brake bleed threads, if you forum search "M775 brakes" youll probably find a few blow by blow how too guides as these brakes seem to cause a few headaches.

Mine arrived today.
I went for the silver ones.

They came with a mug and a couple of bags of sweets.
Amazing price and service, I'll use them again!

Now to fit them...

Cool. Just sold my old juicys, and bought some of these. And some Conti GP 4000s for just 27 euro each - my local shop wanted 50.

Superstar do new XTR ones - are the pads the same for the XT does anyone know?

Do they do the finned XTR pads?

Think all new style calipers use the same shape pad (pin in middle), which is different to all the old ones (pin on side).

New XTR and new XT are the same shape, they look like this -

[IMG] [/IMG]

Or like this with fins -

[img] [/img]

As far as I know only genuine Shimano come finned at the moment but would be happy to be proved wrong on that.

Cheers Mister P and others.

I'm sure someone said the SSC ones are un-finned. I'd prefer them that way to be honest - less bits to fall off or go rusty prematurely.

😉

My Xtr s just came. They are the trails with the finned pads for 280 bargain.Forgot to say I bought the new xt s a month ago and their awesome brakes you all will be mega happy with them. The ice tech rotors do make a difference though

Oh no only one spare insert damn.

My tiny bike will need both shortening I'm sure.

Best try and find these new insert spares.

Yep that is the fella. The olives are all the same but the insert is silver where as the older ones are gold coloured so you can easily tell them apart.

Ok, I switched over and bled. Found a PDF online talking about changing hose without bleeding:

Followed and works, no air in system, shortened, switched.

Just don't forget to switch at the lever, not the caliper! 😉

No fins? Sorry nmdbase. But at that price they're a steal.

I'm currently running the (unfinned) Superstar New XTR pads (S5). Feel great.
Saving my fins for high braking (dragging) trips away.

That "burping" technique in the PDF does work a treat.
When I shorten/swap levers I also fill the brake lever hose aperture with fluid before I refit the hose to minimise getting trapped air inside.

All set up.

As to weight, they come up to me at about 15g heavier than my elixir r carbon's (like for like), but that was with pre-cutting hoses so it's probably a wash or very slightly in avids favor.

Continuity - I'd be interested to hear how you find these compared to your Elixirs?

I haven't had a chance to ride them yet. I'm using my old avid adapters and Avid Cleansweep G3 185mm rotors. Icetech rotors won't increase your braking power in this country, just reduce temps for big mountain descents (30min plus e.t.c)

Incredibly positive feel to them - it's very clear where the bite point is and there is no compression beyond it (except in the front where I lost a little fluid whilst switching hoses - need to do a quick bleed).

[img] [/img]

The short levers feel good, though I still had to run the levers inside as I one finger brake only. They don't match my paint-work quite as well as the elixirs though! Much less flex both in the clamp and the lever - on the avid brakes a hard grab at the levers would move the resevoir side a good 2mm, these don't. A very solid feel in comparison - I certainly have a lot more confidence in them.

The only thing i'd worry is if they will be a bit grabby - but you can't tell that until you ride them.

I'll run these on my g3's, and if/when next summer i take the remedy on a bike trip I'll get ice-tech rotors and finned pads and new adapters. Oh, and some 10speed xt pods - the new shifter pods automatically match-make with these levers.

Best part? I sold my elixir r's secondhand on PB for £5 less than these cost new. Off to Cwm Rhaedr again tomorrow!

Thanks for the info - I await the results of the first ride 🙂

And I've got the same problem with matching colours - it would take a lot to get me off my Elixirs but I am tempted!!

I am really tempted by these as I'm not too happy with the elixir 5s that came on the fuel. I'm even more tempted by the xtr's purely from a looks point of view! Which is a shame because Rose dont seem to list the £288/pair deal any more 🙁

without readin the whole thread, how much are these brakes, and what do you get?

I may be getting a fair few sets of these and want to make sure I can sell them 🙂

I wonder how many sets they had to sell, I imagine MTB forums all over EU are also pointing other workshy folk at these brakes and theyve been on offer for a while now.

I ordered 2 sets of silvers, but just called to change one set to black. Fantastic service and unlike CRC, the person at the end of the phone was very helpful and sorted it out right away.

was just gonna say, they dony look to pretty on the bike...thought they would look better than that! the old ones looked outdated, but the new ones look pretty awful full stop 🙁

Function over form, I suppose. I quite liked the look of the old ones. As long as they do the job, I'm happy enough,

They are ugly beasts arn't they.

I was tempted, but I don't really need to change.

The XTR's look acceptable, but the cost difference isn't!

Shieeet. I think brakes are one thing where I'd choose performance over looks.

Lemme put it this way: I'd choose the looks of my face over the looks of my bike. Only just, but still.

Had to order silver ones this morning as they were out of the black ones by the time i made it to checkout.

Not worried about what they look like - its defo an item of function over form.

Mine just turned up and I think they look brilliant.

Love the new lever.

Came with 2 new olives and inserts a rear 160 adapter and a free mug.

3 days from ordering to delivery. That in my book is perfect Internet service.

I think they are 66GBP and 63GBP plus a fiver delivery to the UK.
You don't get discs or caliper mounts.
