My default answer to any "what shorts?" or "what bib shorts?" posts is always the same, Decathlon 520 or 700 series. I say this as they are bloody good shorts, very, very comfortable, fit well and are generally priced a shade under £50. In my opinion (more accurately, my bums opinion) they are better than the very expensive shorts from the likes of Assos, Pearl Izumi and Specialized that I have bought in the past. They are the shorts used by FDJ if that matters to anyone.

Anyway, they're in the sale, £25 for the 700 series and £20 for the 520. They btoh have the same pad, just slightly different materials. Seriously, these are brilliant bibs for not much money all, treat yourselves, I will be stocking up.

How are they size wise ( tight , generous , bang on ) ?

Ernie67, pretty spot on in my eyes, maybe a tad snug but certainly not Italian sizing. I'm 6'4", 36" waist and 15 stone and wear the XL's, their size guide says I should be in a large, which having tired them on I know would fit my legs/waist but would be a touch short in the body.

They do look good and I am in the market for some - so I'd like to know about sizing too.

I'm a 34" waist - so do I just follow the size guide?

Ah forget it no Medium or Large - just S, XL and 2XL for 700 series.

However 520 have S, M and L.

Was about to buy non bib versions, what is the advantage of bibs over normal shorts? do you have to get undressed to pee?

Rats. The 520 might have matched my Ride Journal top nicely, but no XL 🙁

There's medium's in the black 700's. 520's are fine as well, the Lycra is not quite as well cut, that seems to be the only difference I can see.

Click on the small pics on the right side of the screen to see the other colours and the sizes available.

the Decathlon stuff is great, even better in current sale. The other day I bought, for my kids, a jersey, a warm top, a waterproof shell and 2 pairs of lycra shorts, for the meagre total of £60

I've been into a store for a look at these. I recall the 700 has laser cut leg seams or something and is generally posher. Both versions are great for the price.

I have to admit publically, looking at them I had a sudden realisation that I have turned into a roadie tart after buying the road bike just 9 months ago. Despite them being superb for the money I didn't buy either as the BTwwin logo was too big and/or wasn't Rapha or Castelli. There, I said it

Ooh, just having a further browse, if you need a new road helmet as well, this one is also a bargain, £28 for a reasonably light but very, very well made helmet. It's currently my commuting helmet, I like it a lot.

I bought one of those helmets recently and it's great. Ordered a couple of sets of the 520 bibs the other night too, great value for the money

note - all cycle sales clothing here

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-858366-cycling-clothing-sales#

I also recently bought 700 series waterproof jacket. Cut for MTB, it's a little short in the tail for road riding and the arms aren't perfect for riding on drops, but it's a great jacket - when I bought it, it was reduced from £70 to £35. I've seen them for £20 online and £10 in my local decathlon (stockport)

Lunge, I've ordered a set based on your recommendation, do you do refunds if I don't agree with you on the comfort?

😉

Check the different colours for sizes as it'll bring up more options.

No, I will blame you for having poor taste and/or an odd shaped arse.

I'm too small. With a 32" waist would I be taking a S or M in the Decathlon ones? Their size chart suggests S/M

Which model are you looking at the Clubmans or Pro-Line 365? Only have Large stock no Mediums?

My order was delivered today. The medium bib shorts are very close fitting. Glad I didn't try a small!

The pad is very thick and the breathability of the mush is poor. But for that price you can't grumble!

Are the orange and blue pads the same? Just a different breathable mesh on the blue insert (720)

Excellent, some of the reviews say the bib shoulder straps slide off when riding ?

I've used them for an MTB night ride and a cx commute to work and back. The straps were no worse (or better!) than any of the other bibs I've got (decathlon, funkier and lusso)

I've just a returned a Rapha top from their sale because the aero was a little too svelte. An embarrassing amount of mtb and road stuff for me and the mrs just bought from Decathlon for a £100!

I picked up some 500 series bibs in store yesterday. Quite a small fit - I've got a 33" ish waist and a shade under 6' tall. Medium was fine around the middle but with the bibs on I was into wedgie territory.
