Oooft, they are 'challenging' in colour, and I wear orange Salomon X-Alps for walking in....mind you, at that price...

What are the m089 like to walk in? Considering a pair for commuting and bikepacking

My older M086's (in spangly bronze colour) have been the most comfy, hard wearing and good performing SPD shoes I have ever worn. Walking - good enough tread to prevent too much cleat skating, and to grip mud, stiff enough while not full on race-slipper for walking. Mine have wandered up a few munro's, bike on my back...

How do they size up?

I am usually a 9.5 in everything, Shimano 44 (so nearer 10) fits well, typically slightly narrow back and wider forefoot.

Same fit as my old M086's.

I need some new SPD shoes. I am not buying them though. Mother of god they are hideous.

I bought a pair last week... not bothered about the colour. Not too much, anyway... but they're a bargain!

How do they size up?

I'm a size 9/43 for shoes but for Shimano bike shoes I've always bought 45's.

Just clicked the link excitedly as I need some 2 bolt cleat compatible shoes. But dear god they are minging - I don't think I'd buy them if they were £10!

Compared to my old gold pair, I think they are just a bit #enduro.

A bit of mud will sort that.

My pair just arrived, and I kinda like the colour. Bare in mind my old shoes are yellow, so these are a bit more restrained. Seem pretty comfy and at that price if they only last 6 months I'm happy.

Great shoes, my first pair lasted 3 years, absolutely battered, but kept going,
I have silver and blue and unfortunately seeing signs of wear, the orange seem too much even for me

I'm a uk9, 44 perfect

Kind of tempted, they'll look less lurid with a bit of wear. But 45 or 46? I never know with Shimano.

Went for 46. Cheers OP

Mine arrived today and I just completed my first ever clipless ride.

Although they are orange, they are better in the flesh then on the tinternet.

Cheers for the PSA 🙂
Mine arrived Monday, and I've been on a couple of rides with them already. Makes me wonder why I ever buy any other bike shoes than Shimano!

I've got Mavics that pinch, and some Giros that are really comfortable but started to fall apart about 4 rides in.

These are properly comfy from first use and look really well made. I really like the ratchet system, seems to spread the 'load' well. The new style insoles are excellent, fitting my feet perfectly.

As ever with Shimano I went up a size to 46 (from a 45 normally) and the sizing is spot on.

Colour-wise they are very orange! Nearly matches my Urge helmet, but a bit brighter.
With a helmet and shoes in orange, and a luminous yellow Endura top I looked a right sight earlier. But no-one was going to miss me 😆

I found them very flexy & the plastic cracks quite quickly, keep your receipt!

I really like the orange actually, sick of black as everything else I have is.
