PSA - Ragley frames for £170

The Marley was superbly packaged, probably only topped by Canyons boxes. Literally slid it out of the box, removed the comprehensive foam tubes taped everywhere, with masking tape so no residue, turned the bars and it's ready to go (although obviously I couldn't resist a bit of tinkering with silver ano, etc) . The bike itself is so nice, the paint is mint, it just looks right. I might even bother to try and upload a photo.

Based on this if you're thinking of one and can pay with a CC I'd give it a punt. The Marley is a proper bargain at £800

My insurance came through to replace nicked bikes so we got three new bikes in four days, it's like (the best ever) Christmas around here. And yes my security has been upgraded about 1000%....

Well, a load of bits have arrived earlier than expected. 4 big boxes landed 5 minutes before I had to leave for football 😬

🤣 No, frames not here till Monday. And it was a right game. Sheff Utds first win of the season, penalty with the last kick of the game. It went off on the Kop something unreal

Anyone fitting frame protection?

All I could see was a ridewrap kit

I'm a bit loathed to spend £110 protecting a £170 frame 🤣

Might just take the scars

*edit - it was mac89

What's wrong with £10 worth of Heli tape or the likes strategically placed on the frame?

I’ve put some rubbing tape on the headtube to stop cables rubbing, but that’s all.

Cashflow’s tight for me at the moment, and the point of this bike has been to make a cheap winter bike.

From experience a few patches of helitape don’t make much difference and look worse than a patina’d frame.

I will be fitting some Gusset tape on the top tube. When i stop on the bike, i tend to stand astride the bike and drape one inner thigh on the top tube.

If my shorts are dirty or gritty, it really abrades the gloss surface and makes it look scruffy very quickly. Some tape over the top tube def stops this. Also some screwfix self amalgamating tape wrapped around the DS chain stay

More stupid questions I'm afraid. There'll be a few this week 🤣

For those with TRP brakes, they come with a P23 mount. Fine for the Lyriks (180 standard) with a 203 rotor.

What have you fitted at the back? +23 with a 180 rotor, or bought another mount? Can't see any 183 rotors apart from Hope, but guess that's an (expensive) option

Im sure it says 180mm max in the Q & A part of the product description

I may be incorrect....

Had to fit a 180 Shimano adapter that I had in my collection otherwise the pads were significantly offset from the rotor but that way it's spot on.

You can get 185mm rotors pretty readily. Add an m6 washer or two if it needs spacing out.

I'm slightly bemused as to why they ship with a +23 because as far as I can see, TRP only make 180mm discs, not 183

Sorry, have i misunderstood?

Is the rear of the frame a native 160mm, and it comes with a +23mm adapter?

Im away from my frame at the moment...

The frame is native 160. It doesn't come with any adaptors. The TRP brakes that were also on offer apparently come with a 23mm adaptor.

I'm running a +20mm and 180mm rear disc, because that's what I had. A 160mm rear disc seems a bit small to me for a bike like this.

I can't find it anywhere on the Ragley website.

@Kramer if you go onto CRC website and look at the Q&A from the Big Al page, its in there.

@breninbeener, interestingly it's not mentioned anywhere on the Marley pages?

Also the Big AL seems to be almost sold out.

@Kramer sorry i was talking about the Big Al. Sorry for any confusion! Maybe the different design and construction is at play here? If it will physically fit, I'd be happy to run a 180/183/185

@Kramer

Have another then. Don't overgroom though.

@nickfrog, thanks, and it's a lovely looking bike, however the reason that the other photo was making me itch, was because of the brand clash of TRP brakes on a Shimano bracket.

😂. I had never fitted one there actually, just an experiment. Is it supposed to be on the non drive side? It's gone now anyway. Not even sure if those pump holders are normally also designed to also allow a bottle cage on top?

Yes, for weight balance. 😉

WRT to stacking them with bottle cages, it depends on the pump holder and the bottle cage, but in most cases you can no problem.

180 rear max rotor size but .. having run a 203 on the rear of my last Big Al for 18 months   I cant see why i would change that on this one .  Helped coming off Hevellyn  yesterday 🙂    Besides if I get 6 months from the frame thats the cosat of replacing all the bearings on the full sus over slop season . But im sure it will be nothing but fine .

That cross brace on the non-drive side is pretty strong.

I'd have no issues sticking a 200/203 on the back either. Just means I still need a different mount

😂. Guys there is a bit of a clue in my name. RH front brake would mean an almost certain visit to A&E, at best.
