£210 down from £290.

Still a lot of money but my lovely wife just got me a C5 for my birthday which was very baggy around the belly (surprisingly, given the lockdown diet) so the stretch only really cost me an extra £35.

Hope it lives up to they hype!

Great jackets, got a great black Friday deal on one for £115. Brilliantly waterproof and breathable but don't take them anywhere near brambles or anything spikey

What's better about them than normal goretex?

Never breathes enough for me.

Genuinely the best cycling jacket i've ever worn. I borrowed one for a 18 hour / 325km Audax in March last year which featured ALL the weather conditions and I wore it all day. When I took it off I was totally dry by the end. I was totally blown away by it. Need to save up and buy my own now.

As others have said, it's phenomenally thin material and it would be an expensive thing to catch and tear whilst enthusiastically riding through brambles!

Basically I think they've done away with the face fabric!

The face fabric always seems to be the weakest link on my other jackets, I've got eVent and Goretex Active Shell and both wet out really fast, no amount of NikWax techwash followed by spray on or wash-in DWR ever works, and I've tumbled dried as much as I think I can get away with (in fact my posh Arcteryx has even started bubbling slightly so have probably overdone heat or duration in the drier).

Of course no face fabric = delicate, definitely a Sunday best rain shell rather than something for the daily commute. I just want something for all those grotty wet winter days, I had some great day's riding over the last few winters but if I was ever forced to stop it was quickly apparent how damp I was getting inside my water-proofs.

A friend reported that her didn't seem to be any more durable than regular goretex. I.e. beading and breathe-ability drops off with use. Don't know if that's a common experience.

A road.cc review did mention that they still needed washed, I guess because any sort of grime or muck could provide a 'surface' for water to wet out, in fact doesn't grease and oil from your skin effectively draw water through the membrane? Either way I wouldn't wear it next to skin.

I really hope hers isn't a common experience, I already have a big collection of otherwise decent jackets that wet out in no time!

Millets is not the stretch version, not sure what difference that makes though

AIU, it's pukka Gore Tex less the face fabric and internal scrim. When pukka Gore Tex first came out, it was much more breathable but suffered body oil contamination that made it leak. They fixed that by protecting the PTFE layer with PU that solved the oil problem but vastly reduced breathability. Event was an attempt to overcome this by going back to PTFE sans PU but I think they ran out of money vs the mighty Gore machine....

I've used pukka Gore Tex since the early 80's hill bashing and mountaineering. I've also had a Shakedry for 3 years. Shakedry is fantastic. It's much more breathable than conventional Gore Tex but is bloody useless if you slide down the road or fall in the brambles. Mine is a bit perforated after sliding down the road last year but the damage is minor and I think I can fix it with a little shoegoo (or Thermarest glue - whatever falls to hand). I've bought another just in case it doesn't work out.

Here's a link in case STW can take a cut of the sales:

I'll echo the praise above. Mine seems to have similar breathability to a lightweight pertex windproof, but with the advantage of actually keeping you dry as well.

I also eco the caution: it's almost certainly not as robust as more traditional waterproofs when it comes to rocks, thorns etc. Well suited for road and gravel I mostly ride, but I'd take something else out on the MTB.

I ride one a MTB and it's great. No concerned about falling off with it as if you're going to fall off you're likely to scrape up most things.

I've got the insulated one too. can only wear that below zero.

Genuine game changer. I will never again buy anything with DWR.

Wow, well I might just be trying to justify the most expensive cycling jacket I've ever purchased, but I'd say it was worth it for the fit alone, it was such a novelty being able to move from the tops to the hoods to the drops without the wrists of the jacket shooting up my forearm, and being able to look down at the saddle without seeing loose folds of jacket flapping about in the breeze.

Also it's pretty impressive being able to wear your waterproof as a windproof on a chilly but sunny morning, was less sweaty after half an hour than I would have been wearing my old bin-liner Endura packable windproof.
