On my winter bike I've been running 10 speed deore for a while. Can't believe the cassettes are £9.99

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/shimano-m4100-deore-10-speed-cassette?color=silver&cassetteTeeth=11-46t

I advise you to pay on credit card, just in case. I think I've bought enough to see me out! 😂

Long cage, or will a medium cage be enough for this?

*adds a new derailleur, chain and cable to basket, so a bit more than £9.99 😭

I think it's the deore 5120 10/11 speed mech you need.

Max Low Sprocket: 46T (1x10-speed); 42T (2x11/2x10-speed)

Any other might only be happy upto 42t on a 1x.

I replaced my xt rear mech with the 5120 and it's perfect.

The old fashioned 10 speed medium cage mechs will work but you will need a longer b screw (at least I did) which can be purchased for a few £

Dammit, I'm on 2x10.

Unless I get the 1x Deore crank (32T) for £43...........

So, this £10 bargain is going to cost..

Cassette £10

Crank £43

RD £33

Chain £17

£103 😂

Yeah good shout this. Mine got delivered yesterday. Currently on a 11-42 so may need a longer b screw. Will give it a go 👍 For a tenner worth a punt.

OUTLET10 gets you another 99p off. Only found that out after ordering another two in addition to the two I bought earlier at £18. Must stop as I think I’ve got enough to last me a while

I'm the same as andy except I don't need the cranks so my £10 cassette has only set me back £70 🤔 Worthwhile upgrade to lower winching gear 👍

Good buy if you can accommodate the lower gearing. I was looking at converting a grx 400 to a single ring set up using one of these cassettes and single ring chainset but it looks hard work? With grx 400 shifters it says you need a tiagra or the existing grx and it's a b screw job too far maybe, 42 be possible I hear with a grx400 mech. Hmmm sram wins I this regard but I prefer shimano usually.

Perhaps a niche question. Anyone used it with microshift advent x setup?

My adventX will take an 11-48 microshift cassette in 10 speed

eBay knock off Goatlink, much cheaper option.

I tried a ztto link with my xt mech but it was rough and I just couldn't get it to work. Changed it to a deore mech and it was perfect.

Yep. The goatlink sort of works but badly. The deore mech works really well. Should've bought a couple more when they were a tenner. Coupled with this cassette that would be a bargain group set

You can also reduce the size of the jockey wheels to give a bit more clearance, I did this with a 10 speed XTR mech...

Would 46t work with an SLX 10spd clutch mech? No idea what model number I have!

Cassette , gloves , brake cables and bar tape all ordered. £23 delivered. Stunning value, make me wonder what they pay for this stuff in the first place and how much every thing is going to cost if chiggle don't get saved.

When did chiggle get like amazon? I ordered this yesterday and it's just been delivered by evri! They didn't even lose the package or damage it.

PJay I was told I needed an m6000 shifter to work with that cassette?

Is the m*100 stuff all compatible so you can use a M4100 to m8100 mech so long as you have a 10 speed m4100 shifter?

I’m pretty sure that correct. Sure I read on here people using the m5120? Mech with 12 speed shifter.

PJay I was told I needed an m6000 shifter to work with that cassette?

Why wouldn’t the m4100 shifter not work with a m4100 cassette?

I have an Advent X 11-48 10 speed cassette, M5100 11 speed rear mech (takes up to 50t) and a M4100 10 speed shifter. Works great.

I had the full advent X setup but didnt get on with it.

I don't know, currently have an SLX shifter for an 11-36 cassette and been told I need a different shifter because that's got a different pull ratio ? Why is everything so complicated? Shouldn't a 10 speed shifter work on any 10 speed cassette ? 🤔🙄

Doesnt the 5100 derailleur has a different pull ratio to the 765/786 mech? so it needs a different shifter?

<li style="text-align: center;">Been advised to get a 5120 mech , a 6000 shifter and that cassette in 11-46 , so I guess it might be worth trying the SLX shifter first to see if that works before swapping shifters ?

Sounds a bit odd. I use a Saint 10spd shifter with an M8000 11 speed rear mech with whatever 10 speed cassette I can find at a decent price. Works great.
The cassettes I ordered Saturday literally just arrived. Impressive

Your 10 speed shifter SLX will work with all 10,11 & 12 speed  MTB derailleurs. The same applies to 11 & 12 speed shifters, they all work with 10,11,12 derailleurs, you just need a derailleur that matches your cassette. 10,11,12 MTB derailleurs have the same actuation, it's just the shifter that varies.

You mean shifter that matches the cassette.

Yes shifter has to match the number of cassette sprockets. By matching derailleur to the cassette I mean a derailleur that has enough capacity & the low sprocket max matches the largest sprocket on your cassette.
