As title

I'll be getting some of the gloves that everyone seems to rate.

Does anyone know what the base layers and merino tops are like?

If you have ever worn proper Merino then steer clear of the aldi stuff. It does contain some Merino, but it doesn't really feel like it.

I'll be getting the gloves, but that's it. The quality, and cut, of the Crane stuff over the last few years has really fallen off a cliff as far as I am concerned.

The shoes might be ok for winter under some endura type over shoes...mind you lifted a pair up when they were in last time (different style shoe) and the weighed about 2kg.
Bought a wind stopper thing a few years ago, its very warm and no pit vents so tend to cook in it and went really bobbly on the back under a pack.

Gloves it is then!

under helmet cycle cap looks stylish! 😀

Sadly true.

I'm still wearing half a dozen winter and summer zip up jackets from 7 or 8 years ago. They're ace.
Winter ones are fleecy lined, summer ones single layer, both very well made, seemingly indestructable.

Last years equivalent looked awful and the fit was a bit odd to say the least.

Sorry to go against the herd, but I find the long sleeve top I got last time ACE, removable sleeves and just the right cut, decent rear pockets and zip. All for £16. My advice is try it on - sizes are very odd...perhapes my body is odd?

Well, if a herd is me and Rusty, then I guess you are. I would want to clarify this is not a snobby thing. I am genuinely gutted that their recent stuff fits like a cardboard suit, and has a design that seems to have leaked out of a 80's fitness class...

What are the gloves like. I had the Lidl gloves last x 2 winters which are starting to fall apart. Missed the Lidl sale. Are these ones as good? They look a bit weird.

Might have a pop at the HRM though for such little money!

I regularly use the socks, gilet and jacket and really really love the socks, the gilet is okay but the zip is not great the jacket is not at all breathable but does stop the rain so I only wear it when its cold and wet.

For a fiver the gloves are awesome. Bit sweaty, but for a fiver really really good.

...this is assuming they are not too dissimilar from last years lot.

The tool kits are a bit of a bargain. Considering they cost the same as a Park Tools BB spanner.

Has anyone used the shoes? Look like they might be ok for filthy winter commuting

Aldi opening round the corner from me on Friday, putting all these tantalising bike-related bargains within reach. Or you never know, I might come home with just the pint of milk and loaf of bread I actually set out to buy.

Actually I have no idea as my older stuff refuses to die

The red "style" up there is not unlike the red stealth FWIW

What are the gloves like.

They harness BB* technology so a bit sweaty but they are waterproof
Can be a teeny bit cold in really cold weather

Sorry to ask a daft question, but how do you buy them?
So they do mail order
or do you just turn up on the day and hope?
If so does it matter which shop you go to?

Nope

Yup.

Not as much as it used to, as Aldi have loads more stores now. But there are certain stores that seem to get targeted by eBay resellers, and any store near busy commuting areas seem to run out early.

The new (last year) gloves are not as hard wearing as their older stuff they are warmer but are now winter only as opposed to autumn/winter/spring.

And yes the cut of the jackets has gone a bit wonky. IIRC last one I tried L fit my body but the sleeves were so tight is was like having a blood pressure cuff on both arms. XL was just stupidly enormous body but still had snug sleeves.

Got an old under helmet cap which is fine, that one up there looks well wrong.

was hoping for some more compression tops, dunno if the compression does anything but they are good base layers, maybe spring/summer?
