Eyeing up either:

2017 Fox 34 Float Grip Performance

V

2018 Rock Shox Revelation RC

Both similar price. Going on short travel HT.

I'm interested in fork performance & DIY servicing at home.

A2C the RS is 3mm taller & 2mm more offset.

DIY servicing at home

Pretty much rules out Fox unless you're going to limit yourself to a Lower Service.

I haven't used Fox Forks for years so can't comment on them.

What I do know is that Rock Shox are easily serviceable, there are tutorial videos and full instructions on the Sram website and from first hand experience their products are easy to work on.

I don't think there's any reason that you wouldn't be able to do a full GRIP damper rebuild at home.

I think that's the Fox fork I got in the PSA before xmas and it's very, very good. It's my first fox fork but personally I've had enough of various problems with rockshox products, Revs are a good fork too though. I wonder if offset is fairly important.

Why would you think that? Their no different to an RS fork. Air spring one side, cartridge damper the other. Both can be accessed and serviced and the damper can be bled.

Here's the instructions:

Have right now in use:

Fox 34 Float Rhythm 130 for a 29 bike

Fox 34 Float Rhythm 150 for a 27.5 bike

RockShox Silver Sektor 130 mm on an 27,5 bike as well.

Both Fox forks are boost. Both from bike-components winter sale. Fox Float Rhythm service should be as easy as for the RockShox. The Fox forks are really fantastic. Strange so: the 130 mm Fox feels much better than the 150 mm Fox. No idea why.

Nothing wrong with the RockShox Sektor either. Not as "plush" and stiff as the Fox. But o.k. - the Sektor is a bit the "low budget" fork from RockShox.

I would definitely order the Fox forks again...

I think the GRIP damper is possibly better than the Moco in the Revs but... I would still get the rev and later the 2019 air spring upgrade and you'll be a happy bunny. The 34s are good but the 2017s weren't Evols I think and I don't think I would want them without that having been on some 2018 Evols for a while. The Revs however are Debonair and can / will take the new upgraded air shaft to make them even nicerer. Then later down the line you could always get a Charger damper too if you see one at a good price and you've now got 2019 Pike forks in all but the stickers and possibly the air topcap.

... also... I am sure the new GRIP-like charger will be available aftermarket at some point and will fit your RCs so thats a future upgrade option too. Basically my point being that if you get the RCs not only are they really easy to service but you have a whole host of reasonably priced upgrade options down the line that would boost their performance in meaningful ways should you want to.
