anyone? Full 1080p projector can be had for ~900 which is less than a good 50+ incher (fnar) and gives you a screen as big as your wall can manage

I've got a home cinema room with a projector and screen, however I'm not convinced it'd work well as the only TV.

hmm well not the only tv but [u]my tv i.e. PS3, sport and films.

how much does a screen cost??? I presume this is a big step up and necessary requirement as opposed to a white painted wall

A screen is definitely better than just using the wall. Mine is something like an 8ft and is a pull down one, fitted to the wall. Cost abour £250-300 if I recall correctly - that was a few years back though.

We use ours for movies, football, Xbox, Wii and it's also got Sky so gets used quite a lot - the kids and their friends especially like it. We've just put a running treadmill in the room as well, which we use will watching the big screen.

My home office doubles up as our home cinema / TV room with a projector and pull down screen, only TV is a small one in the kitchen. Fantastic for XBox, Films etc. Our kids and their friends love it and its great for sport too.

This also means we don't have a TV in the lounge, just a Hifi, which works really well.

Only thing to consider is that you need a reasonably dark room to get a decent picture.

i use a projector for games and films and sometimes use it for topgear. watching normal telly at 100" is pretty horrible tho

We've got a projector strapped to the roof in the living room and an cheap 28inch tube tv in the corner. Tv gets used if we're sitting down for 20 mins to watch the news etc. but the projector gets a lot of use even for Eastenders and all that stuff. It really excels though for xbox, movies, sports. Especially in the winter when you don't feel bad about shutting your curtains at 6 o'clock.

No screen (white wall) and about 14 foot wide, looks good to my untrained eye and anyone else who's saw it.

Fantastic but energy hungry and you can't watch tv in the daytime. That's what my mate says anyway.
I'm always round there to watch blurays on it though! Better than the cinema I reckon.
