As teh title this may be a dumb question but I've either had built up bikes or run singlespeed or Alfine so I'm not up to speed with derailleurs but I'm planning on some for my next bike.
I've just got a good deal on some second hand Deore 10 speed shifters.
Can I use any Shimano 10 speed rear mech or does it need to be a Deore?
The front shifter is 3x, if I want to use it as 2x do I just control movement with the limit screws?

yes any Shimano mech is compatible
2x10 - yes just toggle the limit screws.
My 10sp XT shifters have a dedicated 2x10 switch but Im not sure Deore ones have this
