As I dont have a history of pretty much anything (at least the NHS/Meical databse in the UK knows about!) anyone have/or had any private medical insurance policies and what they think/thought of them?
With things on myself aching and breaking a bit as i progress to the big 4-0, I was hoping to get something sports related, sports GP, physio, etc etc.
Ta for any advice Singletrack peeps!

I use Aviva Personal Health Insurance - spot on! I had a bad MTB accident in Sept 09 and have had physio for the best part of 18mths now and they have always paid, no questions!
Incidentally I also put my wife on the policy and she has had 3 operations on her shoulder, all done privately - again, no questions!
More importantly at absolutely no 'additional/hidden' cost to me - i.e. No excess etc.!
Highly recommended.
I'm not sure it's all that necessary these days. When you had to wait 3 years for a knee operation, maybe, but mostly things get done in 3 months if you can get your GP to keep hassling. And a lot of physios charge non-insured patients about half price.

To be honest I don't care how much they charge me as an 'insured' patient as I don't pay ๐ , the insurance does!
Also I get to choose using the 'best' physio I can find and no waiting list of 13 weeks, which it was after my accident. If I had waited that long the long term effects could have been much worse and most physios/doctors will tell you, the quicker you get it sorted the better!
All i know is the experiences I and my GF and our friends have had with NHS and getting things looked at quickly when your desperate to get back on your bike/run/swim/trail.... i'm sure you all have similar stories,
my GF's knees had taken 3 years of battering GP's and physios (who initially made her issue worse) to get to the stage where she saw a surgical consultant, he then got the MRI people to scan the wrong knee! , when the right knee was done, he then took 3 months to get back to her for the physio appt's, and what should be done. in the meantime i setup a private appt with someone in Edinburgh, who saw the same MRI scan and immediately diagnosed the issue - lateral release surgery required...he then helped her with some physio exercises and also called her GP directly to refer her to him on an NHS basis, 4 months later we are still awaiting an Operation date, in the mean time the first consultant after getting badgered by my GF for all of this time, sent her a letter to say 'nothing wrong, take painkillers'....WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we need something like TripAdvisor but for NHS consultants i think.
