[Closed] Pretty poor after its second outing

Is this just simply bad luck or are these known for poor strength on the sidewalls (caused two pinch flats from this) Pressure was 35psi on tubes.
Was looking forward to giving them a good go but they slapped me in the face and said we're not worth what I paid.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Really struggling with them in the mud too so am looking at Bonty Mud-X's for the coming weeks, while the gloopyness lingers on.

Are we just meant to know what tyre that is from a tiny bit of the tread?

You ought to study statistics.

Some might say fundamental omission.

Reminds me. I'm going to buy this car. Have you any opinions on it?

I think its a combination of really bad luck and basic omissions on the manufacturer's part, unfortunately they won't TELL you that the tyres have paper sidewalls, you have to deduce it from the weight/description.

I would do yourself a favour and NOT get into buying expensive tyres, its a painful addiction and you'll never go back! Get some wire bead ADvantages and be done with it (rueing the £200 I probably sank in tyres alone last year... 😳 )

I've never ripped a side wall on my nobby nics, riding in the peaks.

Riding a HT with around 30psi in the tyres, guess i'm just lucky and have now seriously jinxed myself.

I must say up around Gisburn, they were incredible and I was more than suitably impressed but I can afford to replace them at that rate.
Ran a set of Intense 404 for nearly a year through everything. Weighed as much as a house though.

Are the snakeskins a lot stronger, not sure how you would quantify that?

Yep...seriously. And?

You see a picture of a damaged tyre and immediately decide the tyre is rubbish.. Do you think there's a tyre out there that's never been damaged..?

The snakeskins are a lot more durable - they last forever! I get half a season max out of a normal Schwalbe tyre.

i love nics and have ridden them for ages(evo and snakeskin). snakeskin are much tougher and shrug strikes much better. good for tubeless.

I thought you meant that I had seriously considered Nobby Nics... but yeah you are probably right about making snap judgements - however, this isn't the first bad thing I've heard about them today.

Think I'll replace just the one with a snakeskin walled version if they are a lot better then.
How do they compare weight wise then to the Evo?

Yep - looked at the back of mine today (2.1 NN @35psi, tubes Singlespeed) only a couple of outings on the Quantocks and i've got a small tear through the first layer of the sidewall 🙁

I had read a few reviews about the sidewalls not being the strongest - the price you pay for lightweight??

Might have to get a reinforced sidewall version {edit - 'snakeskin' too]or go back to something a bit stronger on the back if it gets any worse...

"Do you think there's a tyre out there that's never been damaged..? "
yes the shops are full of them:-)

I'd stick a piece of milk bottle plastic behind that and get riding.

Unlucky, i'd say - Could happen to any tyre. Now go and get a cheap set of High Rollers. Or some Swampthings for the mud.

I dont expect tyres to last forever and to be fair Im suprised my Intense tyres last so long with what they went through.
But I was asking the question if I was just super unlucky or are have a few others experienced maybe simpilar.

Its just good to know before I have to splash out again.

I had more luck with Nobby Nics than Mud-x's, Ripped/cut the sidewalls on them within 20 miles,Chucked tubes in them, puctures galore, awful tyre. Will never buy Bontrager again

I have a couple more at the same price if you want to try again.... although they are tubeless ready, they wont run tubeless on a ust rim. they need a stans kit to work without a tube....

pm me if your interested...

HOw fat are you? I couldn't get away with 35psi with my riding style, I did run NN for 18 months with no sidewall issues, come to think of it they were 2nd hand too

Not necessarily, they just may not be suited to the type of riding you do. What caused it? Rock?

Not really sure, it was more a rooty snaking gully where pretty much anything could have been sticking out.

10 minutes with a needle and thread, a tyre patch, and it's good to go again.
