[#2608478]

Trying to gather together the various lubes etc I need to do a lower leg oil change on my revs.

Seems I need some red rum for the foam rings, fork oil for the lowers (any weight, mix it with a bit of red rum?) and some grease for the bushes.

Ive been recommended Rock n Roll super slick and other things but I've already got a tube of Manitou Prep-M which is supposedly meant for exactly this purpose.

However I've seen people saying it's too thick, or it's full of lithium and it will swell the seals.

What's the score? Don't want to buy another tub of grease if the tube I have is fine.

I just use fork oil for my recons which I guess are similar. No grease no "red rum"

Prep-M is a thin but sticky grease. There is better for this purpose, but using prep M won't be substantially deleterious to the performance of your fork. Slick grease would be better though.

You need a little smear of grease inside the dirt wipers. Other than that, you only need oils for, AFAIK ALL modern forks.

Fully synthethic motor oil of any type will be fine for the semi-bath, (IMO its superior to 'fork oil' and you need to get the right weight, proper oil for the damper, if you're going that far with your service.

Thanks for that chaps, I'll use a tiny wipe of the Prep-M on the bushes on reassembly.

I wouldn't put it on the bushes- there's no point, it will just get washed off by the fork oil you put in.

It will work well as mentioned above if you wipe some on the inside of the wiper seal.
