Switched to full length gear cable on my BMC teammachine, didn't even need to modify the frame, just had to drill out the replaceable cable fixtures.

Used Ashima 1.1 mm teflon coated wire (teflon coating can gunk up, but doesn't seem to be an issue with full length outers), as opposed to the default 1.2 mm ss one.

Gearing is night and day from stock, extremely crisp (admittedly it was a bit poor in stock form).

So which part of introducing more flex to the system do you think made it more crisp

My bike needed 1.1mm inner cable to work correctly due to the cable routing.

Hah, extra flex has a negligible effect compared to the effect of getting rid of friction from ferrules and liner used inside the frame, plus over time preventing gunk from getting into the outers. Friction was particularly high on my bike from the store so YMMV.

Did it with my mtb before and got a nearly as good level of improvement.

+1

split cables have always been a bad idea.
