A simple "no" will suffice here......

um...

well that sucks ๐Ÿ™

I was kind of hoping you'd say 6-12 DAYS.

I've never dislocated anything before and I must say i'm not really enjoying the experience so far.

anyone else care to share their joint popping experiences and recovery times?

Popped my left elbow twice (fractured joint as well first time). The first time, it was nearly a year before I was comfortable going full speed off-road for 2+ hours at a go. Second time was less complicated, but goog's 6-12 weeks was about right.

argh.

not really what I wanted to hear ๐Ÿ™

is it worth a trip to A&E to have it x-rayed? so far i've chosen the MTFU root as it went back in pretty quickly.
Surely there's not much they can do?

Hell yes!!! The problem with my first was M'ingTFU, leaving it for a bit, then going for and X-ray, finding a fracture, spending longer in a cast, losing more muscle strength and taking longer to recover. If you have a fracture you need to know about it ASAP - it may determine of the joint needs to be immobilised or not.

Get some proper medical attention pronto. There are a lot of structures surrounding the shoulder that could have been trapped where they shouldnt be when it went back in.

Did both of mine simultaneously falling out of a customers loft hatch a few years ago. Was riding the following weekend but even now theyre not right, so as above get some proper medical advice.

go to A&E now and then see your doc ASAP. A&E will tell you if there are any fractures etc and your GP can refer you to a physio which is 100% necessary.

I've done mine properly (out for a few hours waiting for ambulance etc) a few times and it's 4 weeks in a sling as standard to let the muscle tears try and repair and then very light exercises. Once a shoulder has popped it is forever weak and liable to happen again as the ligaments holding it together have stretched and they don't repair. Listen to a doc and physio and you might be lucky and get away with 80% strength back in a year.

Not what you want to hear I'm sure but I speak from far too much experience. The last time I dislocated mine was 6 weeks before a trip to the alps and there was no chance I could have gone ๐Ÿ™

Be very careful!
get it x-rayed and get some physio.
I did mine years ago and didn;t take care after the initial incident, was plagued with repeated dislocations which I used to be able to reduce myself, by lying on tables with my arm hanging off the side, or a rotary motion of my elbow.
Eventually it was totally mashed and wouldn't reduce without a&e. I under went some repair surgery and (touch wood) it's been fine since.
the physio is very important to build up the muscles surrounding your shoulder joint. My problem was increased by an almost sub-concious protection of my shoulder, which meant I used it less and teh muscles weakened further.
All very unpleasant!

Did mine when I was 19 (35 yrs ago!) took about 6 weeks before it felt 'ok'. Luckily I've had no bother since.

Did mine almost 3 years ago - 1 mile walk to get picked up (including through a river), about an hour before they "relaxed" me and put it back. Couple of x-rays and lots of checks that the blood supply and nerves were all OK.

Did it 21st March, was on the turbo about 4 weeks later, gentle outside rides from early May, 5 hour road rides late May. First off-road was end of May too. Physio stopped in June, but was doing exercises every day into July.

Did Mayhem (gently) late June as part of a team, 12 solo late July.

(Sometimes it's handy having a blog to go back to)

Dislocated my shoulder for the second time end of May last year while rock climbing. Back on the bike for easy rides 1.5 months later. Back to full comfort on the bike after ~4 months. Currently recovering from surgery (arthroscopic labrum repair) which was early December. Physio reckons it will be another couple of weeks before I can start with easy cycling again.

ha cheers bud :]

just got back from A&E - must say the service was quite quick! I was in and out within 2.5 hours (well done Southampton General). The xray confirmed that everything bone wise is ok, but going to see the consultant on wednesday just to make sure.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was my own fault, I could accept that, but what ******* me off is that the guy that did it whilst playing football couldn't have given less of a crap as it was! No apology, nothing. He didn't even have the courtesy to stop playing to see if I was ok.

Grrrrr....

My shoulder popps out on ocassion aswell, last time was when i was washing my lorry at work, i was stretching up with the brush and it appeared to come out it's socket and rotate round to my chest area...i just rotated my shoulder back round and it went back in!!! Is that dislocating? It aches for a few days afterwards and i can't lift much with it.

It happened the first time after i got checked at Ice Hockey and fell very heavily on it with my full weight, i could not grip the stick or move it, it was sore for weeks but never thought anything of it, that was last January, it has done it 4 or 5 times since...once when i dived in the pool on holiday and again when i was washing my car!

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, i saw the title and thought id ask..so is my shoulder partially dislocating or is is something else?

Im playing Ice Hockey tonight, hope it behaves itself.

See the worst possible position that you can put your arm into once you've had a dislocated shoulder - that'll the the one you'd put it in when you're washing a lorry. Arm bent at the elbow, fist pointing to the sky and the upper arm out to the side.

Yeah i just tried that little movement, im not sure i f i did dislocate it the first time it did it though?

I don't suppose it matters, the fact it popped out is all that matters, i started doing better warm ups before playing sport or running as it used to ache when i did that aswell (im slowly falling apart here), i have also started doing light weights to try and build up the muscle in that area.

1981miked - sounds pretty much like you dislocated it to be honest and keep dislocating it. Go get some medical or physio input and you'll have a far better outcome than you will achieve by yourself.

I did suspect that..so in theory i should not be playing Ice Hockey tonight, biking tomorrow, Ice Hockey tomorrow night and then on Sunday! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I spoke to a doctor over the phone and to be honest he pretty much told me it was "nothing" and not to worry about it!

Ill go get it checked out next week..Hope he/she doesn't tell me i can't ride my new bike when i build it next week!! SHHHHHHHH.

Felt a pop in mine 18 months ago when I crashed my bike, went A&E not broken which I was sure it wasn't but something wasn't right. Had 3 weeks off work, loads of physio over a few months another pop in it while at work and finally an MRI scan. And now i'll be having surgery on it within the next 6 weeks to shave some bone off and maybe some work on the tendon holding everything together, he won't know till he goes in and has a look ๐Ÿ™

Can still ride the bike but I pay for it the following day or if out for a few hours and also Agree with Surrounded By Zulus, washing up or washing my car is a killer.
