[Closed] Poploc on a Sektor - Running without the remote?

Thinking of buying a Sektor from Merlin, and the Poploc version is cheaper. I don't want the poploc though, so can I just not fit it? I know I won't be able to use lockout, but I never lock my current fork out, so not bothered by that.

Will I have any other problems though? Will I still be able to use the adjustments etc?

Thanks

If I remember right, it is just the on/off poploc adjuster, so you will not lose anything not fitting it.

You can disconnect the spring in the damper to get the extra adjustment of the compression damping. Otherwise you can just do as you say and not fit the remote, but forego the compression adjustment. Disconnecting the spring can be a bit of a pain, but it isn't rocket-science.

if its a cable one.. i've seen a modification.
A Barrel adjuster bodged onto crown - looked gash though.

If that's the one for £275 you may well find that it is an OE version as aftermarket Sektors don't have Pop Loc.

Note that in the description on Merlins' website it is a STEEL steerer. 🙁

I suspect it is, as the only Poploc Sektor on Rockshox's website is black and 140mm, but I've checked with Merlin and the details on the website are right. They also said the steerer will be "approx 220mm".

Is a steel steerer much worse than an alu one?

It's only heavier & corrodes - the choice is obviously yours.

However, that isn't the only thing that OE forks sometimes lower the quality with, dampers and such like are often different but maybe not in this case.

On One have only got 9mm revs for 300. I need 15mm and white. Annoyingly Merlin have run out of the more expensive crown adjust Sektors now, so unless I find a deal somewhere else its the Poploc ones or nothing..
