Not had any info about this Sunday yet, so just posted on their FB page but who is racing on Sunday? Im billy no mates this time, so feel free to join me if you're in a similar position.
There is a group of 5 of us probably more riding than racing, feel free to join us we are a friendly bunch
There is a group of 5 of us probably more riding than racing, feel free to join us we are a friendly bunch. we are going to try & get an early start then go back out to watch the fast lads & Tracy Moseley
Myself and a mate are heading up. I'll be on a 456, hardly ride with my mate so not too sure what he's on. 😯
I'll be there 🙂 afaik they're sending the info out tomorrow but not the whereabouts of the stages. They won't be telling us them until Sunday morning because some will be using footpaths I'd imagine.
Abigale will be doing her first Enduro race. Still not had the camper delivered so it looks like a b and b. She will be on a S Works Enduro and I'll be the one with a pot on my foot. Going up Saturday, any encouragement will be appreciated.
Im there. Rolling up the night before and looking for a campsite
i'm going, on my own, first enduro race and mega unfit right now! i'll be riding a bright orange el guapo, no doubt slowly and badly... going up early on sunday cos it's not too far for me from lancs really.
Billy no mates here aswell, don't know if to go day before or just drive up in the morning, bit rubbish we can't practice day before,I'll be on an Orange superlight meant to rain.......sorry.
Me and Simon of these parts are racing. I'm headed across Saturday afternoon and hoping to squeeze in a quick spin then.
Racing into tomorrow according to FB and stages released Sunday morning as there'll be loads of cheeky. If its even half as good as last year then it'll be flippin ace. Hopefully the weather will be as good as last year too!
Yep, I'm racing. I'll be on a black and green Spesh Pitch.
I'm there. First ever enduro, first ever race (well except a local 1hr xc thing). Also Billy no mates. I am slightly terrified though T-Mo being in the ladies is also inspiring. Have promised myself just to make sure I get round and don't worry about 'racing'. Look out for a lass with a white helmet on a stealthy black Spitfire. Got campsite booked for Fri and Sat but might just go Saturday mid morning.
I'll Be Having a day off work Friday to go and have a ride around grizedale, mainly to get used to my new bike. Busy elsewhere on Saturday, and back Sunday for the racing, only live 25 mins away so nice and handy for me.
Also riding solo, on a black Commencal meta v4. See you all there.
think theres about half or dozen or so of us there. not ridden Grizedale for ages. just gonna go and have fun. I tried really hard at Gisburn and did terribly so hopefully can just enjoy the day...
Having just seen the forecast, I'll now be having Thursday off work to go ride! Friday looks very wet! Showers for Sunday.
yep i'm up there on my own doing a disservice to my carbon nomad (must be terrible to be a bike that gets ridden no where near it's designed capabilities). if you see a fat, balding vet blowing out of his arse on a santa cruz - come say hi
I've had to pull out of this race and had paid a £20 deposit for 2 nights camping at hawkshead campsite. I'm not getting the deposit back so if it helps a fellow mountain biker you could perhaps assume my identity and get £20 off your stay?
let me know !
There's a few of us heading up on Sunday morning.
Never ridden at Grizedale, what's it like*?
*subtle what tyres for #enduro question
Can't do this race due to work commitments maybe it is a blessing in disguise after breaking my wrist at the race last year.
But deep down I'm very jealous of others who are going.

Photo below kind of shows what it is like in a lot of places - rocky and loose like a lot of Lakeland bridlways - really good fun! Dont know though if they will have cut some cheeky forest stuff.

[/img]Stollen from the web!
I am keeping the Nobby Nic on the back and Magic Mary on the front due to the rain forecast rather than swapping to the Hans Damf.
I'm expecting a lot more of this from last year:
Watch 5:50 onwards - there'll most likely be a lot of this. It was unreal that section last year. Flippin brilliant!
I'll be there! Just waiting for my new meta v4 to arrive. If not I'll be on a hard tail. I'll be riding with my dad and keeping it steady. Say hi if you see a shiny new yellow meta.
I'll be there on my todd probably falling off this[URL= http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h178/stevenpownall/DSC_0252_zpswacwmreu.jp g" target="_blank">

Daveyboy. Was the high line right over the top not an option? I know it always looks easier than in the flesh...
Race info looks good. 2 stages that are never usually open to the public
I'm in - Me and the brother in law will be there bright and early Sunday morn. I'll be mostly crashing into trees on my vintage Nukeproof Mega:D
Its my first Enduro and I'm excitedly kacking my pants
See you all Sunday
I'll be there with my broken toe
jj - yes, it was. Got sketchier as the day went on though with a big hole appearing under it. It doesn't look it in the vid but that entire section was really steep so chucking in a steep boulder make it even more bonkers/fun/scary/hilarious.
I was but waiting on another xray on a possible broken hand, done the other day practicing for this very race.
gutted, but will be up there watching and cheering on my buddies

that looks like it will be chaos in the wet once a few riders have been down it! somebody was saying the lack of practice availability on Saturday is due to some of the stages being run on footpaths and they're not closed until sunday. if so it's likely to be more loose rocky than muddy
Forecast is all over the place at the moment, but wet looks quite likely! Off piste is going to be a bog fest!
That's more like it 🙂
Excellent. It will be cool but I'll take that with dry and sunny. Hopefully the forecast rain for Fri and Sat will dry up quick.
Anyone around for a potter tomorrow PM? Tea time ish maybe? Depending on the weather, the wife and kids might stay at home but I've got a pitch at Skelwith Fold sorted so I'll be heading over tomorrow regardless and it'd be rude to not squeeze in a quick spin tomorrow afternoon...
We will be there from the afternoon on Saturday. Managed to get some overnight accommodation but not on that side of the lake. Kevin and Abigale will be riding up to tea time then we will have to find the digs. Just need to keep my pot dry and hopefully it will be off on Monday and I can slowly get back into riding, well as quick as they will let me.
I'll be going up early Sunday morning , anyone else from the Notts/Mansfield area?? This will be my second round, loved Gisburn and this looks just as good. Altho another wet one it looks like!!!!
So glad the "heavy rain" has receded.

Suggesting ff, knee and elbow pads. I only own knee pads and open face helment and thats what I normal ride with at Grizedale. Seriously hoping that is going to be ok. Feeling pretty nervous!
Really depends what forecast you read...MWIS says:
"Risk of snow and rain
Threat pulses of rain - but falling increasingly as snow to quite low levels, and over a few hours, may merge into near constant precipitation."
Think I'll just pack everything!
thats what I normal ride with at Grizedale.
Ditto, and I'd be very surprised if the majority of riders are in FF lids.
If you normally ride the off-piste stuff at Grizedale in an open-face helmet then I'd not fret too much - unless you have a habit of coming off more when racing?
Hummmm....its my first ever race! Hence the nerves. I do the likes of the riverbed bridleway etc in my open helmet so just going to stick with what I know I guess!unless you have a habit of coming off more when racing?

That's my plan, I know there's some technical stuff on the walking paths there but I'm unlikely to suddenly start hucking it to flat anyway.
Some teasing pics on facebook - looks like one of the stages is going to include bits of last years stage 3 from the top of Carron Cragg which was flippin ace! Including the rock roll/drop thing on the video I posted.
Met Office forecast is the one to look at too 😉
Just got home from grizedale, and last years stage 3 is included, although not all the way down to the shop.
Dry today, rain was moving in as I left, and there is quite a bit of surface water still on the trails I rode, mud guard now fitted.
It's worth a practise of the black run as there is some new features up top, which cought a couple of riders out today. If you like jumps, your going to enjoy this!
I really enjoyed the race today, a cracking day out. It was great to see natural stages linked into the trail centre type stuff. Saw a lot of guys fixing punctures...
yep great day out. Well run and good stages. Preferred it to the UKGE event last year, in terms of stages.
+1 on the punctures. So many.
Aye, great stages today, really enjoyed racing them, although quite slowly!
So glad I'm now using tubeless having seen the puncture carnage on stage 2.
Another cracking event from the pmba crew.
Results and pictures are now up on roots and rain website.

Well organised and a great weekend. Every one looked like they were having fun. Abigale had a stack on the second stage which damaged her rear brake lever and left her battered and bruised but she managed to finish. Twelth in the ladies with a time of 11 49.67. She is well stoked with her first result and is now having a soak to ease the pain. Kevin is still in the garage fitting a new brake as the lever is beyond repair.
I didn't even start. Was ill all day Saturday and still feeling ropey Sunday but travelled up anyway. Practised stage 1 a couple of times but could hardly hold onto the bars. Did stage 2 and dropped that boardwalk section just after the off-camber slab at the top straight onto a load of rocks - torn tyre and somehow mangled my chain as well. Took that as a sign so went back to the van, had a cup of tea and was home by 2:30. Bit disappointed as I love Grizedale and the work the guys do up there for the stages is top notch...
i crashed right at the entrance to the trees on stage 1 (no idea how/why, and my left thumb swelled up to twice normal size which made the rest of the day a lot more interesting!), then clipped that pad in the middle of stage 3 and got bounced off down the trail a bit, but other than that it was massive fun!
i wasn't last, so that's a victory for me.
thanks to all the marshals and organisers, and also to whoever booked that weather as it couldn't have been much better really.
I went down hard on Stage 2 in practice, could smell that burning smell of sparks from steel on rock as I wiped out on a fairly easy bend towards the bottom, annoyed as I had cleared all the difficult stuff rather well but that extra speed was my undoing. Managed to limp around the rest of the stages feeling sorry for myself, planning on going home for an early bath. However those nice ladies at the Medical Tent sorted me out with an ice pack for my bruised leg and after 2 hours kip in the car I decided to neck some drugs and managed to drag my sorry ass around the race, glad I did as Grizedale is so much fun. Took all the stages a little slower and posted an average time in my class, however I PR'd all the Strava stages so was actually quicker injured, guess there's a lesson in their somewhere. Thanks again to Mike, Kev, Doug and the rest of the PMBA team including all the marshals who gave up their time for us all, cracking day out!

(the bright orange one on a silver Canyon)
I had a bit of a shocker, saturday night i noticed that my wheel was very much the wrong shape after Monday nights Cavedale/Peaks adventure. The rim is proper ****ed, bending the wrong way at one of the spoke holes.
I came down the top of stage one in practice with my balls on the top tube, race run wasnt much better as I crashed once, then hit a tree 😀
Stage 2 was respectable and a great laugh at the bottom watching the puncture based carnage. I can't believe the number of people running tubeless that didn't have the worm kits, helped 3 or 4 people out there while my mate was sorting his bike out.
I'm yet to work out why i sucked so bad on stage 3, I think after all the fun and excitement at the bottom of stage 2 i didn't really have my racing head on anymore!
Cracking day out though, sunburnt but happy 🙂
A DNF for me. Burped the front tyre badly on the second stage during practice, would'nt seal so chucked a tube in. During the race I pinch flated on the same stage tried carrying on but crashed, bending my peddle and stripping the threads in the crank arm. Tried bodging the peddle but then I came off again on stage three, ripping the hose out of my rear brake so threw in the towel. Gutted really, always enjoy riding Grizedale and the stages yesterday I thought were excellent.
I came off on the bottom section of stage 1. Over shot a jump and landed on my chest and elbow. Badly winded and very sore elbow but managed to finish. Feeling very sorry for myself today. Great day though. Think I'll be having nightmares about the top of stage 1.
Just bunged the order in for a new brake lever, Kevin fitted a spare last night and she also needs new cassette, chain rings and chain but that's due to wear and not the crash. Left Abigale in bed this morning, just got a message saying she feels horrible, sick and her head still hurts. She is more upset that she looks like an Umpa Lumpa on the race photo. There was me thinking that her bright red face was all part of the colour thing in Enduro.
Interesting day up grizedale then, punctures, offs, face plants, mechanicals and down right sunburnt, and may I mention hale stones, was an excellent day,I did ok until I lost my chain on stage 4 which cost me circa 1 minuite, narrow wide and clutch mech so must have just been rotten luck, lots of laughing and smiling going on,there was a guy at the start of stage 4 with a dislocated shoulder, looked in a lot of pain,he was being looked after very well by all the relevant staff, hope he's ok,some seriously good times on the results board, mine not so good
another good day as always.
another stupid slip of white paper to remind me how shit i am and ruin it and as always!

I saw your crash on stage 3, was at the bottom helping some other fella with his puncture, shame you couldn't do the last one.
I was a bit disappointed with my times for 1 and 2, I should have done a couple more practice runs really. But no crashes, no punctures, no mechanicals and weather was almost perfect, I had a great day 🙂

I reckon the last stage would've been my strongest one as well, nice and peddelly 😉 Even if I hadn't of knackered my peddle/crank coming off twice put paid to having a decent time 😥 Oh well, there's always the next round 😀
Just watched the race video those stages looks mega! Think I would have been right at home on Stage 2 fast and rocky like Peaks riding... Really pissed off that I had to miss it now.
