I use a NAS drive and a Logitech Squeezebox Duet (now discontinued I believe but may still be obtainable).

You could plug it into a ps3

I don't think that the wii can do the same without a hack

I expect a rasbaerry pi would work

how much music

A cheap mp3 player would seem like a good option

looks like 30 40 quid for 16 gb

does your tv or set top nox have a sub port?

PS3 does work, but the folder/file browsing interface is so slow that if you have a lot of music it's painful to use.

I use one of these

USB in / HDMI out means plugging it into your TV & Surround sound is dead easy.

The UI is a bit basic but it does everything I need & cost me about £20.

Cheers fellas I have a crap tv so no chance of hdmi thing but looks good for future use, I've got my mp3 player but I've hundreds of albums and I'd sick of swapping and changing so getting straight from the hd would be good. Not got a ps3 either. Will look at the other options thanks

The HDMI socket on virgin box will be an output to the TV. I would guess the USB is for service/engineer use, but it may allow you to connect an external drive to it - I don't have one so couldn't say.

I would think you'd be able to get a hdmi to whatever you do have conversation cable

No idea how well that would work though
