I have a brand new pro2 front bolted into a brand new fox 36. If I try to waggle the wheel there is a bit of play. Is this normal? I would have thought it should be rock solid.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Rich

Probaly need new bearings in the hub, play is a classic symptom of this.

My brand new Pro II had this with my Pike fork. LBS changed the bearings to fix it.

My suggestion would be to phone Hope, they're pretty good customer service wise.

Make sure the axle is tight before calling hope. Could be a bit embarrassing.

Had this issue and it may not be as simple as new bearings but a bit of a tolerance issue.

I had a set of Rockshox Pikes and 2 Pro2 wheels, one with a bit of play, one without. Changed bearings with no difference on the one that did not tighten well.

Checked the bad wheel on others forks, tight in some and not in others.

Googling found lots of instances of this problem and it seemed to be a consensus that manufacturing tolerances may lead to this if one component was at one end of it's manufacturing tolerance and the other component at the other.Ie the bearing inner and the maxle/axle.

If you change the bearings and still get the problem Hope may be able to advise.

IIRC one guy had spoken to Hope and Rockshox, Hope blamed Maxle manufacturing tolerances, Rockshox blamed Hope 20mm adapters and cheap bearings.

I had the exact same problem, bit of play in thr front wheel when using a ProII with 20mm adapters.

A fully tightened maxle solved the problem. I would do this first
