Carbon framed bikes do they work for road and/or off road?

Potentially because of the weight and flex they could be immense!

of course they are more expensive than mettalic materials (other than maybe Ti)

Are they robust enough for off road?

Oh dear. Not this again.

They are fine, they are plenty strong enough and they ride real nice.

depends on the bike. you can get bad carbon as well as good carbon.

just pick the bike you want irrespective of material.

as always they can out perform or under perform any other material at almost any other price bracket. it all depends on how they have been designed

What is the environmental cost of carbon fibre?
What is the most environmentally friendly frame material?
Anyone know?

That's amazing! Would it be strong enough for mountain bike frames? I want to get a tourer soon, I could get a bamboo one! Who makes them, I can't make out from that photo?

carbon fibre is mined by pixies....it is flown on the back of a migrating swallows; fibre by fibre from the Democratic republic of congo. Therefore it is very environmentally friendly,no fossil fuel was used In transport :D,but can lead to a big carbon footprint... 😆

i have a carbon anthem, to me it rides better than the alloy one.

but i also have alu bikes, it really is more about the geometry than the ingredients.

as said above carbon can be good or bad - it is too simplistic to band all carbon together.

steel ranges from asda £69 special to hand brazed 953 reynolds - it would be obtuse to class them as steel framed mtb's (although they are)

and composite is a lot more complex (weave, layering, resin, other stranding, etc.) than a metal
