Looking for a winter trainer that can take guards and a rack and also have cx wheels for the odd race (3 peaks cx 2013 perhaps)
Are there any real alternatives out there or should I hit the buy button?
I bought a s.h one last year and used it for cross last winter. Was great (rider wasn't). My winter frame has cracked, so this will now do duty as my winter trainer as well.
It's a bit agricultural, but makes a great all rounder. I'd say buy.
Frame or full bike? Discs?
Full bike with cantis
Dirty disco looks great
Pinnacle Arkose? (my Arkose 3 should be here within the hour, wahoo)
Dirty disco looks great
Pretty sure that's not drilled for guards/rack (...as in, if it was, I would have bought one by now! 😉

Yep - no guard or rack bosses.... Which I've always thought made this comment on the PX website about a bit misleading:-
Much more versatile than exclusively a cyclocross race frame, the Dirty Disco is also perfect for a huge range of applications including commuting and touring.
I know you can use P clips and bodge it, but I could do that with my Cervelo P3c TT bike and I wouldn't call that a "versatile" potential tourer!
I've got a ti version of the uncle john from a previous era. Fits me well for a winter/tourer/cx frame. Mine is now disced up and the braking is a big improvement over the old frogsleggs cantis. Not a light bike though.
No rack bosses, but I'm waiting for delivery of one of these:

(plus additional 10% off if you use a Pizza Exprees voucher)
Cotic X or Genesis CdF/Croix
Oh that looks nice, esp with all that money off, but not my size, I'd need L. Still I have fallen into the steel trap before with my condor fratello. it looked sweet but wasn't that great to ride.
I had one of the last Large's, it was actual £650 at the time plus the 10% off so £585 all in.
Could buy a medium as a donor for some other disc frame and sell the Charge frame, would make a Cotic X or similar a cheap option.
Am going to disc up UJ. Current plan is:
Fork: Spot Brand
Wheels: Cotic
Brakes: Avid BB7
Should make it a versatile winter bike that slows down and everything.
I love my Uncle John!
cotic X, guards, discs etc and it attracts cake too
