Must be quite new. Stuffs going to have to be very cheap for me to stump up £3.95 postage.

I just figured they were capitalizing on the run-up to Christmas?

Good. Reduces the impulse buying and saves me the disappointment of getting sent things that weren't what I thought I'd ordered, happened too many times.

I bought some tyres recently and was £50 before carriage free. I guess something has to give, but will add it to the cost from now on, which might make me shop elsewhere.

I bought some studded Schwalbes from there recently. With delivery they came to 13 quid each instead of 11, still bloody cheap.

Gone a bit corporate recently. The volume of e-mail I'm getting from them recently is vast, so I think they will be having the elbow in my next spam purge.

Which I think means that the only bike specific marketing e-mail I'll get is Charlie the Bikemonger's.

Jeez that's a lot of extra socks to make free delivery.

TBH, even when it went to £50 they started to lose my interest. I know there's no such thing as 'free' delivery; it's got to come from somewhere, but for a company that's usually pretty savvy when it comes to marketing and offering the deal (although the recent glut of rather meh eshots is starting to suggest otherwise too), an increase to £100 seems extraordinary.

I'd say they've historically been quite good at making a business of, holding stock of - and doubtless selling lots of relatively low value items, but where people are conditioned to 'free' postage, making up a £100 order of low value items (as opposed to £20 orders) won't be happening from me right now.

Seems to be a lot of changes at the moment. They got a new all-singing, all-dancing management team in about 18 months ago - to much fanfare - but I've heard that they didn't work out and the original management team have come back in. Regardless, they seem to be making more mistakes than they are getting things right and given that the odds of being posted what you actually paid for are worse with them than with any of their competitors, it does seem to be taking the mick a little bit..

On another note, does anyone else find their new(ish) website a tad annoying? A particular gripe with me is the randomness of the technical info they provide about products. No consistency across the site, let alone within individual component/product areas. Often find myself going to competitor sites to find the info I need which, from their point of view, is crazy on so many different levels!

I'd complain but don't think anyone there is interested in listening 😐

personally i think every Planet X shopper has had a result, i thinks its a customer service masterpiece because now you dont have to pay to send back what you just bought which is either poorly made, late or doesnt fit.
planetX now do free returns with connect PLUS and i reckon i will save money this way if i continue to shop with them, on 2nd thoughts NOTHING could persuade me to shop with them anymore after their last debacle

I thought the move to £50 was quite shrewd, I can make that up with bits and bobs quite easily. I can't justify making an order up to £100 for smaller items though, so I'm sure I'll end up using them less.

Yep, me too. No way i could find enough stuff i want (and then actually in stock) to make it to £100

A particular gripe with me is the randomness of the technical info they provide about products

Was comparing a couple of mtb frames on their site the other day made harder as one set of geo was in metric and the other imperial 😐

Hopefully it's so they can sack off yodel and go back to DPD. To be honest a pair of their tyres and P&P probably still trumps the free post alternatives.

You did well to get that far my son. Was on there the other day, killing time looking at frames and some had no technical spec at all.

As for tyres with info about compounds and sidewalls etc, don't get me started 👿

That said they all (CRC, Merlin, Wiggle etc) seem to be pretty bad at separating out the 75 different versions of Nobby Nic / Trail King / Minion etc etc and explaining what each one actually is. Best I've seen for info provided (and not bad for pricing too) is nextdaytyres.co.uk where they list all the alternatives for easy comparison

They are now the second biggest bike manufacturer after Brompton in the Uk with a turnover of 20 million . They also take a 10% surcharge on c2w but I dont blame them as the profit margin on a Carbon Pro cant be that much.
To be fair I've never had any hassle with my dealings with Px or On One so don't really mind the £3.95 delivery though I live local to a shop so cant get the cheap lights and tubes without paying for delivery.

the problem is going to get worse
with city link going to the wall it would seem the bleeting from the post office that there is no profit to be made may be true this may cause the industry to start putting up prices, this means that to get free pandp you have to spend more.
no such thing as a free ride some one is paying for it
never had a problem with citylink
yodal cannot handle the amount of volume of stuff it gets so poor service is given, charging to cheap paying peanuts ends up you dont get your parcel and when you do its been kicked around

The staff always come across as good folk. For some reason I've always had a hunch about the people in charge though. I've always felt uncomfortable buying from there.

They're definitely not that. Halfords must be #1 as a bike company 🙂 It would be interesting to see some sort of top 10 though. I wonder what surprises there would be?

Always had great service from on one, and when I've had to call they're quick to answer and helpful on the phone.
I don't doubt others have had poor service but always seems to be a lot quick to diss them. Free delivery for items worth a tenner or twenty quid, already at Rock bottom prices, probably wasn't sustainable.

Regarding couriers, my recent on one bike was meant to be dispatched by yodel (according to their email) but came via DPD

POSTED 42 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

Fairly sure Halfords are assembling offshore and warehousing built bikes here.
Brompton (and Planet X) assemble from parts in the UK.

Never had a problem with them. Once something i ordered wasnt in stock so they rang me to alter order. And one time my tops were too small my fault not theirs and i couldn't swap in store i had to post back which was a pain as i happened to be going to Barnsley that day but small fry issue in the many orders ive made with them over the years. And as said above prices are normally good enough that even paying for postage its still cheap
