Hora, its all what ifs and buts, you don't know, I don't know so what is the point of your post other than a platform for you to moan ?
Get out on your bike and stop your whinging, your not perfect, I'm not perfect so why do you expect perfection from others ?
Great, another bash the police thread, I thought that was currently the governments job! And as for a 2pm finish, never happened. If only the general public knew what we,as a service, are currently going through and having to manage right now.
Trevor (Police Officer for nearly 9 years and it ain't getting easier, no matter what Teresa May says!)
I'm surprised bike theft hasn't been downgraded to a fixed penalty offence.
no-one gives a funk about it.
Not true Brakes, we currently have a big, CID led, initiative on tackling it in South Yorkshire. Too big to ignore now, £5.5 million worth of outstanding stolen bikes in the county! The problem is that everyone, not just Police, still think of bikes as just that, nothing more than a cheap way of getting around, considering some cost more than cars these days there's no way any force can continue to ignore it.
Trevor.
I've just spent nearly £4k of my units (very limited) budget specifically to target bike thieves so you're wrong there brakes.

Sorry I've just noticed this post. Did you read how the thread started and progressed? Do you think that me, as a member of the public who got involved should accept a perceived brush off?
Would I have complained if I'd taken down the car number or/plate? Yes I'd have rang and asked WHY. Otherwise I felt it was a bit like 'hello I've seen a drunk driver and I think his reg is RB12 erm and its red- can you get him please'? Maybe not a perfect analogy but as she did that and passed my mind was swiftly turning round and running down the road. On the balance of this I thought it was tenuous enough not to waste anyones time.
No I'm not perfect but I'll always stick my nose in whether or not it may get chopped off. The last time I helped was on a match day where a motorcyclist had been sideswiped off his motorbike and was in the path of traffic in a 40. Only myself and a bus driver got involved. Everyone else gawped or just ignored and carried on to Man U.
Hmmm....
Got a bike pinched last year at GF's flat in London, was locked to railing outside front door in secure compound.
A 'crew' did a number on the block and made off with 6 bicycles.
security guard asleep! [later sacked]
Suspects on security camera, they returned the next week to rob again, police called, they then 'escorted' crims from premises. No more than that.
Went down to Brick Lane market on the Sunday to see if bike turned up, place crawling with police on special anti-bike theft mission.
I saw 2 guys fitting description, obviously selling stolen bikes, as I approached police they stopped 2 black guys on bikes [not selling bikes, on battered supermarket specials, minding their own business] police gave them a hard time, guys weren't bothered, as they had done now't wrong.
This happened directly [10 feet away] from crims. Crims then jumped on bikes and legged it, tearing through the busy market scattering all and sundry, not one of the 6 [yes 6] police batted an eyelid, the black guys were laughing their heads off, pointing out the proper thieves, all to no avail.
I'd have laughed too if I'd not just had my bike nicked. I realised my bike wasn't going to be found with all the attention of the calamity cops.
I asked two of the police if there were any other markets I could check, they stopped me mid sentence to question a guy who looked like he was straight off university challenge, [greatcoat, college scarf, satchel and specs, holding two sit up and beg/front basket bikes, obviously his and his girlfriends!] they gave him the 5th degree.
Meanwhile every dodgy trader was franticly on their mobiles and packing stuff away.
I can laugh now,
pi$$-up's and breweries.
Hmmm..
Inkster, How did you know the place was crawling with Police? If you knew then surely the crims knew too.
Why were the men obviously selling stolen bikes?
Did you know that some bike theives use battered supermarket specials? It enables them to cover the market area quickly to find a suitable bike to steal. When they do find one their mate turns up with the bolt cutters, they then ride round keeping a lookout, or in your case keep the Police talking whilst the crim with the bike gets away. Also, if they are working alone they can nick a nice bike and dump the crap one.
Oh and your hardly gonna ride a £3k bike round, thats your profit innit.
BTW, you stated that the two guys stopped by Police were black. Is this relevant to the thread, or are you just saying they didn't match the crims descriptions?
Babyjack...
spoke to police when I first got there, they informed me of operation, uniform, cpso's, and plain clothes, i counted about 16 covering the market.
The men who were 'obviously selling stolen bikes', were obviously selling stolen bikes. It was obvious.
"Did I know that some thieves use supermarket specials etc?'...Yes I did. your points regarding their use are sound, but again, obvious.
Relevance of black guys?....Could be that police were distracted from their stated task of dealing with bike crime when they saw black people on bicycles, taking up all their available resources and attention.
Looked like racial harassment to me....6 police deciding to stop black guys on bicycles just in case they maybe considering a bike crime, whilst all around actual bike thieves/stolen bike sellers are making themselves obvious to anyone with any nous.
I apologise for my over use of the word 'obvious'....but...say what you see and all that.
I am not trying to stereotype the police, [sometimes they are quite capable of doing it themselves it seems!] and I'm sure all the police that post on here are lovely, but I know what I saw, and having lived in Hulme, Manchester for 20 years I can safely say that I have a better idea of whats going on than allot of the the young country bumpkin [I was a country bumpkin once] police that join the met force and don't have a clue about what is in front of their faces.
I've just spent nearly £4k of my units (very limited) budget specifically to target bike thieves so you're wrong there brakes.
what on?
Inkster,
I was born and bred in Wythenshaw, Sth Manchester. Lived there till I left school, eventually moved to London to join the Met Police. Spent 3 years as a PC on Brick Lane(Weavers)safer Neighbourhood team until moving on to another borough. I'm not a country bumpkin.
On the 7th July 2005 me and my country bumpkin Calamity cop mates where at Aldgate tube station. As you put it we didn't have a clue what was in front of our faces.
22 hours later we were still there, covered in other peoples blood and vomit. Some of those Officers, who i will never forget, still work on Brick Lane so forgive me if I'm offended by your comments. How quickly people forget eh? Especially when your sleeping happily in your warm safe bed, nightmare free.
Then again I understand your anger. You had a material object nicked, my heart goes out to you.
And please don't reply to my post, I won't be reading this thread anymore, it's upset me enough.
Community Policing, "Isle of Man style".... Brilliant 😀
Babyjack...
It is totally unfair to link my comments to the events you describe.
I have a right to an opinion, and to say what I saw.
I think its time to close the topic?
Now think about what you post .. easy job? Wrong decision? Poor decision making? Make that complaint and we shall let you decide.
I think its time to close the topic?
Amazing isn't it? You wait ages for a bizzie to arrive (unless you know deluded or Bregante personally of course 8) ) but post a negative comment on STW and they're all over it like it's an middle eastern looking Brazilian. 🙂
This is a God awful thread though DD.
Agreed - I’m surprised at the effort some officers have put in, in entertaining bilge.
Harking back to my only post on this immiserating rubbish - there are a few STW' ites missing that I would have expected to have said something on the matter. Perhaps due to misbehavior their basic privileges (like internet access) on the wing have been taken away from them by the Governor? 😀
With respect MC no. However its subjective from your point of view and I understand why you'd think the way you do.
