I have a Lapierre Zesty 314 2009 and I need to replace the cassette, chain and chainrings. The cassette and chain Im fairly happy that I know what I'm doing but I havent done the chainrings before. It has a Shimano FCM542 chainset. I'm confused as I have been looking around and the chainrings are listed as fitting specific cranks.
Am I right in thinking that any of the Deore 22T and 32T rings will fit?
Are there any better options than the Deore chainrings, without spending a load more?
thanks..
yup deore ones will fit. Avoid the alivio ones as they are a bit cruder shaped with sharper teeth and the granny will have tabs that won't fit external BBs.
SLX may also fit and be a bit nicer to shift but the middle one may require some filing to fit due to the plastic part.
PS avoid deore granny rings for octalink BBs as they will also have the long tabs where the chainring bolts go.
Std steel Deore ones. They last.
If you can stretch to an XT cassette that would easily offset the tiny weight gain from the steel ring. An XT cassette is a fair bit lighter than a Deore.
Thanks for the help.......
