[#2881232]

I need some new pins for said pedals and I'm after something slightly longer than the superstar replacements. I've just measured the current ones are they're 12mm long including the bolt head and the thread is 8mm long. Are they M3s or M4s?

Cheers

Doesn't matter anymore, needless question. I found out myself, just did what I tell other people to do, google it. ๐Ÿ˜† I've got it sussed now.
M=metric
The number after the M denotes the size of allen key needed
So M3 = Metric, 3mm
The length is the length of the thread. Don't include the bolt head.

So the current thread length is 8mm, I need 10mm. So I'm ordering about 40-50 M3 X 10mm bolts. All makes sense now.

Well.....

Superstar reckon they're M4s:

I just measured some and the thread diameter is 3.9mm with my calipers so also suggesting they're M4s rather than M3s.

PS. Ignore the superstar claim that the replacements are 10mm, they're not, they're the same size as the originals - 8mm. There are also 20 in a bag not 16...

Thanks mate. You've saved me 'kin up. So some proper length M4 X 10mms should offer a decent performance upgrade without being too long? I might go stainless steel though, personal preference and the colour is pretty similair to the colour of my originally blue pedals ๐Ÿ˜†

EDIT- You posted the stainless steel ones while I was typing this post. I'll duly get them ordered, thanks mate. This should be a good thread for anybody who's in teh saem position in the future.

So if you're reading this however long down the line, get some M4 X 10mm allen bolts off flee bay and job's a goodun

I had some 10mm ones kicking around (i'd wanted some longer ones too) and got some off ebay (which i've subsequently lost - must have put them somewhere 'safe')... you prompted me to order some more!

I do worry 10 is a little long tho - 9 would be ideal, but they're not sold anywhere...

I think they should be fine, anymore than that and I'd be worried too. If you get pins that are too long then they give the opposite of intended effect as the soles of your shoes doesn't sit on the rest of the pedal surface. I'll get some loctite while I'm at it or is it not needed?

I've ordered 44 (40 + 10% extra free) stainless steel M4 X 10mm bolts and also some loctite 242 while I was at it. Lots of long lived grip to look forward too. I'm not loosing anymore pins ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
