OK I know there are loads of posts like this but theres nothing like the personal touch is there?
My GF has finally decided shes had enough of bikes polluting the house
As it is actually her house I probably have to pay attention to this
We have a brick outhouse which would fortunately or unfortunately store all our bikes
It has a crappy wooden door with a crappy lock and crappy hinges and a crappy wooden frame
On the plus side its brick so solid and the door hinges outwards so cant be barged in
As I see it I could get the bikes in and daisy chain them with big FO locks and chains
I would also fit a shed alarm
But where to look to fortify the door and hinges?
B&Q dont have anything I can easily see
But somewhere must - where?
At a guess a new door lock with something more secure than a bolt into a wooden door frame
And tamper proof hinges
I would rather not get a new shed door as this may just advertise theres something inside worth nicking
What do you think?
7'x4'door blank cut to fit the existing opening
hinge bolts
proper hinges(not strap hinges)
two decent dead locks
galv steel sheet fitted with non returnable screws.
hungry dog.
You could ask on here:
Its not as exiting as you think, but worth a look.
have two layer door, with a balsa wood screen on the outside, with a secret layer of nails (point out on the inside), so if anyone forces the door they impale themselves.
and a indiana jones style sharpened pendulum to bisect thieves.
and a crocodile pit.
bike thieves should have their hands cut off.
Take accurate measurements of the doorway & pay a visit to your local tip/re-cycling centre, most of them sell old doors that people have dumped, many of which are of a much higher quality than you can but new, plus it'll only cost you a tenner or so.
Spend the money on decent locks & a good carpenter/joiner to hang it, or if you have a mate or relative who can, even better.
My garage door came from the tip & was better than anything I could find new, short of having one made.
Put in a complete new frame with decent hinges and locks. Just because you've replaced a crappy door doesn't mean you are storing something valuable in there. Or just screw the old door on top of the new one so it doesn't look new.
metal plate on the back sound good
could you use 4 of the door security tab things (long narrow circular key that winds out a lock) as they wouldn't show obviously
Fix a new frame internally with a "good door" in it but leave the old one so that it does not look like security has been increased.
