I get 20mm seated and approx 40mm sag when standing on my 351 coil Pikes and wondered if that was too much or too little...

Your feedback is very much appreciated.

40/140 = ~29% = spot on

I'm probly buying some second hand 351's of a friend tonight. Does anyone know how you check which spring is in it cos my mate doesn't know what one's in there? I'm assuming you can gain access to the spring but is it labelled once you get at it?

Set sag standing in your normal riding position, you won't ever give suspension a hard time while seated.

what do you weigh? and what spring are you using?

Not enough.. supposedly standard spring - barely 25 mm from 140 mm. and these days I am heading for 13 stone.

i suspect the springs are a bit random

I'm up to about your weight just now after hybernating most of the winter and the X-firm spring is what I need. It'll depend slightly on how you ride tho too, if you jump/pump your bike through everything or are reasonably fast DH you'll need X-firm but if you're more of a sat down pedalling mince about type rider (ahem.. TJ) I've seen 15st riders get away with the firm.

If I were you I'd phone TF tuned for your new spring and be honest about how/where you ride.

Personally I'd go with Rock Shox' recommendation over sag. For example, with a red spring, my Pikes sagged the 'correct' amount, but on the trail it's far too soft. So I stuck in a fat pie eater spring, which only sags around 20 but out on the trail the fork feels sooooo much better.

Thought i was gettign too much, they seem to blow through the travel.

My riding style is full-on, whether up or down.

Not sure now whether to get the spring or some new forks...

How much did it cost 'all-in' to change the springs, where, etc?

I got my Pikes and I'm very pleased with them but I think I need a softer spring. They have an xfirm inside but i think i need a firm as I have little sag and they won't bottom out.

I get 20mm seated and approx 40mm sag when standing on my 351 coil Pikes

How much do you weigh and what spring is it if you don't mind me asking?
Does anyone have a firm spring please?

Hi. Thanks for the offer but I think it's a firm I'm after. The xfirm feels great but I'm not getting full travel or much sag so I think the firm should be perfect. There was a standard spring for sale on ebay recently but don't know if it's still there.
