So I might be a cheapskate ....

Following nickfrog's Mondraker and an ever increasing awareness I'm using my T-130 for uplift days as often as trail I was looking at something similar...

I stuck a 140mm Pike on the T-130 which I'm happy with but I still have the 130mm Revelation... I've got lots (3 sets) of non boost 27.5 wheels...

Everything I own is non boost ... so I toyed with splashing out... before I get any older.(50)..

I was looking at something like a Capra in Al...  but it's probably more bike than I need but then going from 140/130 travel to something like 140/140 etc. didn't seem like a big change????

Then more indecision ... after seeing a frame on e-bay...(frame, shock, headset, rear wheel) non Boost with shock... and I've got everything apart from the bars and seatpost and I would need a PF30 BB fitting... and probably do the pivot bearings before building it up??

I'd thought the non-Boost Pike can be taken up to 160mm in 27.5... but looking quickly couldn't find an airshaft but assuming it can go to 160mm and the steerer is long enough ...

Bearing in mind the current T-130 is the longest travel bike I ever rode...

I reckon this might satisfy an itch for now???  Sell my currently hardly used carbon hardtail and forks and strip the T-130 back to trail spec?

Or should I rent a bigger travel bike for a weekend and see what difference it really makes????

Am I missing anything ...

Frame £600

Pike to 160mm = £30 or so...

PF30 BB ... and fitting £30

Bars £30?

New hoses £50

Seatpost (temp non dropper) - £30

Levers, calipers, pads... check

203 rotors - check

Stem - check

Saint cranks ... check

10 or 11 speed chain, mech, shifter., cassette.. - check

wheels  tyres - check

Pro's or cons or am I mad?

That's what you need for 160mm Pike

Might as well get the 2019 version - its a lot plusher thanks to the increased size negative air spring

Ah except its out of stock - but it is what you need

@ndthornton

Ah, thanks.... I'm not going mad in respect to thinking I'd seen these.

I know the Pike isn't a Lyrik but it's what I have.

I'd thinking all up the 2016 will end up about £1000 vs wait for the 2018 Al currently at £2300

Pike at 160 vs Lyrik at 170 and RCT3 vs Superdeluxe R

Use stuff not being used instead of buy newer and better?

I'd looked at the AM9 but Frame and Shock only would mean wheels and forks for Boost...

There is nothing wrong with the Pike at 160mm

Not much difference to a Lyric - same stanchion diameter just a tad more metal in the chassis

I just upgraded the air spring in mine and the damper to the charger 2 - both give a significant increase in performance. Essentially you have brand new forks for a lot less cash without the inconvenience of having to go Boost which I don't really see the point of. Rockshox have done a great job with backwards compatibility meaning the decision to go Boost only is less of an problem.
