Now then.

I've nearly finished servicing my Pikes but I'm a bit confused about the contents of the dust seal kit that arrived today. It has the grey wiper, foam wiper and a black wiper thing. The forks didn't come with a black wiper just a thicker bit of foam and the grey wiper.

Is the black wiper for the Pike or another fork? If it does go in the Pike it would be a tight fit and I don't want to risk damaging the lowers jamming them in there if they're not meant to go in. Is there a right way up for them to go in if they're supposed too and do they go in below the foam ring or above it?

Thanks.

Yes, you can use it, it's a proper oil seal.

Slightly more stiction, but vastly better sealing.

The order is black oil seal at the bottom, then the thin foam ring (soaked will oil) then the grey wiper on top.

Put a small amount of grease on the black oil seal before inserting it to make your life a little easier, they're quite tight, and Retro is correct on the order of installation too.

Thanks! I have another question too. When I cleaned out the lowers there were 2 rubber pads that I think came out of the bottom of the left (spring side) lower. Should there be one in each lower or are they both supposed to be in the same leg. They look like shock absorbing things to me so I'm thinking there should be one each side to protect the bottoms of the stanchions?

I put them in the freezer and I think they wanted to go in a bit easier then. They'll definitely not be coming out in a hurry that's for sure!

The forks are back on my bike now and feel amazing. Thanks for your help everyone.

Which way up do the oil seals go in?

I've got the seal pack for my Rebas and the oil seal has a slot in one side and not in the other.

Can't tell from the photos on the SRAM service pdf ๐Ÿ™

I put my Pike ones in with the slot underneath. I think it might be better that way so gunk can't collect in there but I'm not sure. Check first. Try phoning TFTuned if that's where you bought them. I would have phoned them but they were shut today.
