Anyone else using a piglet for xc/ towpath/ 2nd bike for the missus to use? I know something like a rockhopper or xtc would be more sensible but I've got my heart set on a piglet an just need that last bit of encouragement before I take the plunge! Also, what's the sizing like? I'm 5ft9, so ragley recommend a 16in which seems very small. Had a go on a 16in inbred the other week an it was like a kids bmx, far to small for anything other than messing about on
It's a bit of a strange choice if you're not planning on pointing it properly downhill ever!
I'm a bit confused.
Wouldn't you be better just buying your wife a bike that fits her for what she wants to do?
Does it matter what size you are, if its a bike for her?
She'll use it maybe twice ever. It's also gonna be taken round trail centres and on trips to rivington, lee quarry etc, so do need something with a degree of downhill competence. Basically want a winter bike and something I can throw in the back of the car for after work summer rides
Ok, then buy the right size bike that'll do what you need/want. And then if it doesn't fit her, borrow/rent one for her for the two-times she wants to ride.
Do you also need help choosing what to eat for dinner?
Thanks buddy. Very helpful.
If I was spending 1075 quid on my dinner and I had never eaten anything on the menu and the menu was in Korean then yes I would like help choosing if I was surrounded by people who had eaten in that restaurant before.
The sizing on the ragley frames is a little odd compared to other bike companies, so a little advice on sizing from someone who owns the bike in question is all I'm asking for.
I'd say there's a 75% chance the 16" is the right size for you. It's not an ideal geometry for XC in the typical XC sense (not steep, not gnarly) but if you mean XC in the sense of riding cross-country up and down everything enroute almost regardless of how challenging it is, then yes it's a good bike. If your wife is much smaller than you it'll feel like a tank on the occasions she rides it but it sounds like that's pretty much immaterial.
I'm not talking xc racing or anything like that, just want to be able to ride it all day without being stood up the whole time. Can't find anywhere in my area which I can try one out for size which makes of a bit nervy
Just looked at the numbers - I'm 5'10.5" with long arms and my bike has a 23.4" ETT and I use a 50mm stem and straight seatpost, whilst the 16" Piglet has a 23.3" ETT. If it's too small then it's because you're wanting a more XC and less AM riding position. Why not compare the dimensions to your current main bike?
I am 5' 9" and rode a 16" Ragley MmmBop, it was a great fit and felt massively long compared to my wifes 16" Halfords Carerra.
I think Ragleys do size up slightly larger, very different to a traditional 16" frame and you can always adjust the stem length to fine tune.
16" is very long, buy it! superfun and fun downhill, climbs good too. 1m 5`10 & my Piglet 16" is perfect. I like downhill but it takes me whereever.

I'm 5'10, had a 16 inch Mmmbop, it was too small (something's not right if you need a seat tube longer than 400mm I reckon!). Replaced it with an 18 Bop then an 18 Ti, both fit like gloves.
Can't really speak for the Piglet but the bigger Ragleys do work well for trundling-around simple XC, they're planted and comfortable and stable, but still nimble. Not the best seated climbers but out of the saddle they're excellent.
