started to take out my pf30 bb. it came out nice and easy. with a allen key and a hammer and drift.

bought one of these to put in,

it is far too small diameter wise. it measures 40mm

this is what I have taken out. the bb shell must be over 60mm

SRAM, PF30, OS press-in bearings, sealed cartridge

PF30 and BB30 are different. Same bearings, but PF30 supports the bearing in a cup which presses into the frame. BB30 has no cup - bearing goes directly into frame.

That's designed for the task but looks a bit pish.

Something like a Wheels Mfg PF30 Outboard BB would be a better solution - one unit for converter and BB. Solid and quiet.

bring back the days of good old fashioned square taper

Amen to that!

Praxxis Works and Hope also have similar options. Presume its a Spesh?

I fitted a hope pf41 in my spesh enduro which is actually called a pf92 by most manufacturers. They do options for 24mm (standard shimano) or bb30 cranks. Quite an expensive option though especially when you price in getting the tool. But I have always found hope reliability pretty good.

I'm not claiming to be an expert but be careful, I'm not sure that is the right one.

The Hope system for BB parts is actually quite intuitive, (i posted this the other day)

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/pf30-hope-bb-options-sanity-check-please

If its a spesh then I think its a 46mm shell so you might need PF46 not PF41

There is a great reference chart here:
https://18bikes.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/2014-bb-selection-table_final.pdf

PF30 with 46mm internal diameter,73mm wide shell and 24mm shimano cranks would mean part no "BBPF467324SSN"? (Some nice part no logic)

HTH?

so, this one then......I hope so....my head is fubar.......

Oh bugger, I'm home now and have just checked the box, yes it's the PF46 😳

But if you are fitting a shimano crank this is the one you want.

The one you linked is for the 30mm (bb30) crank.

I was pretty confused as well, so got my LBS to check that I was ordering the correct one.

But it still isn't clear to me if you should select the 68 or 73mm option for the spesh enduro. Maybe worth dropping hope an email to make sure, or buying it from your LBS and asking for their advice.

I fitted sram bb30 cranks so my requirements were slightly different to yours.

ps. I am glad warn74 spotted my mistake, I would have felt really crappy about steering you wrong on a bit of advice I gave without fully engaging my brain.

i have found the hope bb thing i need. it is a pf46/68/24. £80 from crc.

quite expensive. is there a convertor that presses in and allows you to use the shiman bearings you have.

Hi ton, MSP, (me again!)

I really hope I'm not confusing anything here, and would reiterate I'm no expert and am only speaking from previous experience.
I have 2013 stumpy fsr 29er which has a PF30 BB. So far I've used 2 Praxxis works converters (same idea as the Hope option) to run 24mm shimano XT cranks.

I've checked the invoices for both praxis works BBs I bought and confirmed they were both 73mm wide.

If (and this is a big caveat so please accept my apologies if this is not the case) your enduro uses the same PF30 BB as my stumpy then you "might" have ordered the wrong one.

The Hope reference code should be: 46/73/24 (46mm diameter, 73mm width, 24mm cranks). I think you have ordered the 68mm one?

The Praxxis works website implies PF30 68mm is road bikes and PF30 73mm is for mountain bikes.

Ant

[Edit, if it's of use, PM me and I can give you the email of a really helpful guy at the Spesh UK helpdesk who gave me loads of technical advice when I was doing my build]

I've used these, (same design as the Hope one) for £54, seem to be pretty well rated by those on here who have used them and saves £26

No, it's the "73mm Shim Conv PF30" (product ref 56821)

Shim Conv = Shimano Converstion I think

Just fitted a sram praxis BB to my Niner Jet9 carbon and my creaky stupid pf30 cup issues (and sram adaptor cups) are a distant nightmare.

It really does make the horror that is pf30/bb30 a more than acceptable BB format
