Following the best part of a year off the bike I have stupidly gone and entered the CRC Selkirk Marathon as a fitness target for this year.

I am starting my training with an earlyish ride tomorrow morning departing North Edinburgh about 08:45, passing Bonaly Scout hut about 09:30 followed by an hour or so in the hills if anyone is wanting to join. No route planned just find some climbs and see how much i am going to hurt come August, if anyone else is out and about.

Planning regular Tuesday/Thursday evening rides as well if anyone else has a similar target and wants a training mate.

Cheers

Iain

You doing the full 100? I did it last year and really enjoyed it! I'm doing it again this year along with some other stuff.

I cant make Sat am (usually work Sat) but ride from the Craigleith area a couple of evenings a week if you want to meet up for trips to the hills. email in profile.

it depends on what part of north you mean and how close you are to a cycle path / WoL but thats doable even for me.

Yes doing the 100.

I live just off Ferry Road right on the cycle path, so on to it to Roseburn then WOL all the way to Bonaly.

45 on the way out at a good pace and without to many walkers/dogs to avoid.

couldashouldawoulda - Thanks, will drop you an e-mail

North Edinburgh to the Scout Hut in 45m

Is that a time and space Dr Who instant displacement type thing, or did you mean 45mins? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I live in Comely Bank and would gladly join you, er, if a) I didn't work all the time and b) I was actually motivated enough to enjoy riding in the Pentlands regularly at this time of year ๐Ÿ™ Best of luck with the event - is that the replacement for the Merida? I did the full distance '100km' (i.e. 88km) one in two successive years. Knocked an hour off my time 2nd time around ๐Ÿ™‚

The ERC mtb bunch leave westgarth avenue at 10pm, normally a good sized crowd to ride with.

I should be up there tomorrow morning as well - probably Balerno-Maidens-Green Cleugh-Nail Trail (if the ground is still firm)-Balerno.

I've been down the Nail Trail a couple of times this week and it was in good condition. I was riding the westerly bit rather than the direct line down though. This is what it looked like on Sunday:

I was up (walking) around the Pentlands today. Still patches of ice to be aware of. The ground is still pretty frozen underneath the mud, so it might be firmer (and more slidey) than it looks on approach.

I reckon the direct line on the Nail Trail will be best avoided by now, however the longer route will be fine as there aren't really any soft bits on that.

Is this a road ride on Sat or mtb ride?
When you get ( you know you will ) your road bike let me know and i might 'shoot' across for a ride per week

Peace out dude

radoggair - It is MTB. After my efforts on the second lap of Kirro the other weekend I need to do something and that something won't be going to a gym. Road bike will be staying SS but have my eye on a route out the East coast.

Rob - Will mail you when i am heading out mid-week, need to sort myself out with lights first.

Think it is going to muddy tommorrow given the current rain.
