I'm planning a loooong pre-work ride tomorrow for the solstice.
I'll be setting off about 4am - so best to avoid as many farms/houses as possible.
Thinking of doing cauldstane slap as I've never got round to doing it before. So - how to get from Carlops to West Linton? There is a roman road shown on the map, but is that really there on the ground? does it start up the driveway of the Icelandics??

Hi,

Take A702 out of Carlops heading south west, take the track up towards Hartside and follow it to Stonypath. You have choice here, you can continue heading south west into West Linton and ride up the road towards Cauldstane (boring route).

Or you can turn right at Stoneypath and head up the farm track (through a farm and some gates) towards Baddinsgill House. Just before Baddingsgill house you turn left off the path down some "northshore steps and cut across to the road before Baddinsgill farm. Then follow the road up to Cauldstane.

The Roman road is not really there (it is just a field).

Enjoy.

Regards
