Sooooo excited!! Just hoping my leg is better- pulled muscle
Pootle:Hayfield, 22nd January, 9am
Car park at the end of the Sett Valley trail.
😀
Woohoo! I have secured permission from the relevant authorities and am IN.
do you wear a badge with your forum handle in or do you just spend the whole ride asking 'who are you then?' and saying 'hi I am...' ?
Hope to be able to join you. I'm recognisable by the 2 little rubber ducks on top of my helmet!

When I've been it's been a case of just pottering ( pootling ) along, introducing yourself by first name, asking their forum name but forgetting that and just carrying on calling them their first name so, when you come back on here, you can't remember who you have met
Just up the Sett Valley Trail from my house. I've been off work for 4 months and filling my spare time with biking on my own. Training for a(nother) huge bike ride in the summer...... I might be tempted to come and annoy some people for a bit.
Hora has reliably informed me that he's coming. Which means he probably won't.
I'm in and will bring homemade banana loaf
Hoping to be there
Hoping to make it as a birthday treat!
Oi onzadog - the only snogging that nbt will be doing is with me. 😀
I'm lame and will have to walk down many descents, just happy to be riding a bike.

I did on my first Pootle. I was the only one. I'm a bit sad.
I also had this:

PS subject to getting a replacement seat post in time, I'm up for this 🙂
If I can borrow a van from work for the weekend, I'll be there. 🙂

What size do you need? Can more or less guarantee that someone attending will have what you require
Membership? I was aiming for cult.
Well, nbt's coming so you're good there.
Oh, sorry, you said cuLt.
What size do you need?
31.6
I've not checked my stock of tat yet, but if anyone does have a spare 31.6mm seat post and quick release that would be *ace*.
ta
I'll have a shufty in the garage
what size qr seat collar do you need? Guessing it will be 34.8?
I'm working this Sunday, so I can't make it. 😥
I'll have a shufty in the garage
Cheers 🙂
Guessing it will be 34.8?
I would think so; I think I have one of these spare though. Will let you know.
sorry guys and gals im out (family stuff 🙁 ) let us know when the next one is.
Bugger, too short notice for me to get up from the south, have fun though and hope there will be another
Can't make it! 🙁
Permission granted. I'll be there.
Is this open to anyone that wants to ride? Id really like to join in but am a fresh face here!
Course it is! The rules:
1) if you're fast, hold the gates and count the folks through
2) if you're slow - have something to talk about with the other 20 people with you
3) bring cake
Pootles aren't a typical 'group ride'. I started them 'cos I hated being the person at the back. I wanted a group ride for the people at the back. There aren't any people at the back in a pootle.
2016 Winstanley Addendum:
4) snogging, heavy petting, running and bombing permitted
5) you must bring your own pen for arse cheek signing
Any recommendations on cheap places to stay Saturday night if I make the 4 hour drive from Norfolk?
Just seen it's 9am. Hard for me to get there for then without staying over & i can't afford that. Have a great time guys

Oh nicknack!!!! This is just ideal! I'm only going cos I'm still very new and totally trust everyone is so engrossed in finding out about one another they forget about how your riding! It is such a good idea for new riders please come along!....
I should be able to make it. Looking forward to it, it's been a while since I've pootled!

That was not the case when I attended!! 😉
WHAT GOES ON [s]TOUR[/s] POOTLE STAYS ON [s]TOUR[/s] POOTLE
OUght to be at Strathpuffer but had to pull out of that as i'm now in london town for the weekend. Gutted i can't make it.
I shall keep an eye out for the next one
Sadly I'm already committed to the Dyfi Winter Warmer on Sunday - hope you all have a great pootle
WHAT GOES ON [s]TOUR[/s] POOTLE STAYS ON [s]TOUR[/s] POOTLE
I think that applies literally to some of our riders too. We always lose a few to the hills...
It's okay, we collect others as we go so the numbers ballance out.

Hayfield itself is small and bit touristy, so tends to be relatively expensive. The obvious no frills option would be the Travelodge in Glossop. Just checked and it's saying 'from £42' for Saturday night. Right in the middle of town and about ten minutes drive from Hayfield on Sunday morning.
Quite a cool place built in a refurbished mill with M&S Simply Food, a Pizza Express and a Weatherspoons and a Dominos all on the doorstep. Plus a brilliant Thai Noodle bar just down the High Street.
The campsite in Hayfield is closed over winter otherwise would be ideal.

I will supply GF cake for any awkward eaters. Anyone want a lift from Rugby/Coventry area?
Girl Friend cake?
For fussy eaters?
Any idea on route ? Wouldn`t mind a full loop in The ladder,
We have a route. I tend to keep it close to my chest though in case we need to change it
I have fond memories of the high peak circuit taking us 7 hours to complete one winter
Including my missus in tears after being terrified that a highland cow was going to kill her.

What happens if a farmer shoots you? Will you be carrying a sealed envelope with the route in it just in case?
It's engraved on Kevlar so I'm safe. You can't see the Kevlar under my kaftan, but now you know.
Anyone from Chester way coming to the pootle?
What's the post code for the meet point?
Post code is SK22 2ES.
Sk22 2es
Sett valley trail car park.
It's £4.50 for all day I think
Tonto... watch out for the girl on the purple bike... she'll hoover up GF cake...;-)
Hayfield camp site has camping pods, but i think they are quite big so might be costly.
There's a few b+b in New Mills that might be worth a try it's only 2 miles down the sett valley to the start. If anyone ends up there let me know and we'll get you to the start!

*waving wildly!!*
I would normally bring some gf goodies but we will have to rush off afterwards as family are visiting - hence no time to make nice yummy portions of cakey goodness.... next time for sure 🙂
Sorely tempted by this to break me back in after a lay-off and to annoy people in real life, rather than on the internet.
Fortunately for you lot it's Mrs STR's birthday weekend and when we aren't doing birthday things, I have a bathroom to tile.
Next time I may inflict myself on you, be warned!
Can't make it now as wife has to work, hopefully not too long until the next one
We have a route. I tend to keep it close to my chest though in case we need to change it
That actually reads: "Nope, no route, we will wing it on the day."
Have fun, most deffo up for the next one.

No, we have a route, it just got boring when a route was announced and then all and sundry tried to rip it to bits to include their own favourite technical bits and stuff that probably wasn't suitable for taking a 50-odd strong group down at a "leisurely" pace. We know a route, we have many options to cut it short or extend it as conditions dictate, and all should be entertained
for those who are unable to make it this time, there'll be more, we'll see you next time
I'm sure you do, I was just kidding, have fun!

Closed until 31 March - the most obvious local accommodation is the Travelodge in Glossop. There's also quite a cool-looking mini-barn conversion thing up opposite Peep o'Day, right on one of the bridleways. This place:
https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p1871463
Easy to plan a route when it's you and a handful of people you regularly ride with. These routes need a certain degree of fluidity as we won't know until after the ride has started, what we're actually capable of as a group.
RoCkEtDog (couldn't resist) - you are welcome to stay at our gaff on Saturday night. Just email nbt if you're taking up my offer. Promise I won't snog you (well no tongues anyway). 😯
Thanks everyone for making me laugh loads.
Now if, hypothetically, one were to have just found out they're free on Sunday, would a comically unfit rider on an 8yr old Carrera hardtail with Tektro vees be able to tackle the elusive route?
A previous pootle:

Have no doubt, this is proper mountain biking. There are cut outs to shorten the route, though some will involve riding along a main road. There will be rocks and stream crossings and some fairly technical riding. People will get off and walk at times. I've ridden these trails on a hardtail with vee brakes (some walking and not a little swearing might have been involved)
you'll fit right in
(I realised half way through typing that that you weren't asking about bringing along an 8 year old child riding a bike with v-brakes 🙂 )
(I should point out that in the pic above, minipips was about 7 yrs old I think, Crazylegs was riding CX and Rich was riding fixed CX)
I probably ride to an 8yr old's standard though!
Awesome - as long as walking and swearing aren't prohibited I should be fine!
Upshift,
We normally work on the principle that if NBT can ride it anyone can...!
Just make sure you've got plenty thickness on the old brake pads.. can be a bit grindy round here!
Absolutely buzzing for this! Bringing my brother in law with me.
Honestly thought these wouldn't happen again!
😐
3rd or 4th Pootle since I joined here. All fallen when I've been working. Gutted
eh up everyone.
Cheers NBT for holding the fort. It's gonna be good. Now's kind of the natural time we'd be looking at the weather.
Looks like it's going to be chilly and overcast, which is an improvement on the last one which was chilly and wet. So that's something.
Markcurtains and those who can't come. There'll be more this year i should think.
Looking forward to this whatever the weather
Back door step pootle dont get much better
Markcurtains and those who can't come. There'll be more this year i should think.
Excellent, I've enjoyed the more summery pootles in the past. Have a fabulous ride, everybody!
Seriously envious, hope the ride goes well, have fun 8)
The half hour looking for a dropped Garmin that had already been found was a highlight for me
Was that the one found at the bottom of potato alley ?
Yes.
Glad I made it onto the list of positive memories of past pootles. 🙂
The Garmin now lives in my Camelbak on MTB rides.
Did Hayfield loop over Christmas, plenty to go at around there; enjoy the ride, family over so can't make it.
Look forward to a summer outing when it happens.
I'm going to be in Buxton this weekend so this would have been perfect but I also separated my should two weeks ago so hopefully next time.
The one with the random tandem(s)... I can't believe that was six years ago.
Yeah it's been funny looking back through the vids and seeing how old they are. I think I've had about three years off running them though
4 years!
This was almost exactly 7 - SEVEN!!! - years ago. Where has the time gone?

and look how our relationship has since blossomed!
...but have we ridden our bikes together since then??? 😆
I saw that pic and thought "ooh, that's nicely lit".
then I thought, "oooh, that looks like me!"
then I thought, "hang on, that looks like one of mine. It can't be me"
It is one of mine. It isn't me 🙂
I have pics from NINE previous pootles...
It is one of mine.
A few of us spent quite a bit of time sessioning that and the little step that leads onto the paving stones. I wondered who the photographer was 🙂
one day it will be on a weekend i can make it but its not this weekend
Loving the videos.
Can't make the pootle 🙁
Not a happy bunny hop.
